Demist windows using heater or electric windscreen?

I have an electric heated windscreen on my new van for defrosting. It is not clear to me reading the manual if it is best to use the heated windscreen or the ordinary climatronic system to demist the windscreen whilst driving in non winter weather. Does anyone know which is recommended please? I know the electric heater in the screen switches off after 10 minutes.
