Dent - what next?

Looks a different design to the one on the left. Maybe try swapping them? Or put the middle on in first then the outer 2?
Ah, no. The picture shows the left hole with just the plug, the middle hole with the plug and half inserted screw and the right hole has nothing inserted.

I would still remove the left plug and try again, changing the order of insertion if necessary.

I booked a self employed gent to glue pull out the dent yesterday via the smart repair people.
Really good job - no sign of the dent at all. A slight scratch remains for those with very good eyes and a magnifying glass. £240.

It means he didn’t need to access inside and I removed the wardrobe panel for nothing! Worse, I can’t now put it back. Those pesky plastic fittings won’t reinsert. The hole is slightly off-centre, so I guess that won’t be helping, but it was like that before I started messing about with it. I can get the ‘splayed plug’ in, but when I try to reinsert the hex screw it just won’t budge, whether screwing, pushing or both.

Hammer?

Glad the dent is fast becoming a distant memory for you Acer.

Pleased to hear it's fixed.
Personally I found that I was able to stress (a bit) less about where I parked the van once I established that most dents were repairable via PDR. Ferry trips are still a test of my nerves though :-/

I’m sure that Andrew Comer at Aro Dent repair will be happy for you to contact him direct. He is Essex based, but travelled to me in North Herts. 07711062623. Great job. Pleasant and well mannered too.

My biggest learning point is not to remove bits of the van unless I really need to.
I’ve given up trying to get the fixings back in the wardrobe panel. Not sure where to go from here :headbang

I've bought them before when i had the internal panels off a T6 van I had. Sure I got them off Ebay. They were very cheap. Surprisingly they do not screw but simply push together.

Someone’s length of wood toppled over and banged my van today in the Wickes car park. Both vehicles were stationary. I was in the van just preparing to leave. Obviously the man admitted it was his fault – he could do no other. He apologised and we exchanged details.

I’m dreading the forthcoming admin. He suggested that he would just pay for it, rather than involve Insurers - we weren’t driving. I do hate the thought of losing my no claims discount for something that’s not my fault, but I’m not sure about this as a way forward.

Maybe it partly depends on how much the repair would cost. Does anyone have any ideas? I guess I’ll be going back to VW too so as not to invalidate the warranty.

How depressing. Here’s a picture. View attachment 131107
Please remember this it happened to me, council dustbin lorry reversed onto my car, they paid for it, my insurance wasn’t even part of it, but it shows up internally so have to declare it and it’s cost me a fortune,

Oh! I’ve got the clips and yes, although they have a screw thread, they push in to the plug quite easily. Trouble is, that ‘push in’ just isn’t happening when I try to fix the panel to the metal strut behind. In the picture of post 49 you might be able to zoom in on the right most fixing and see that the hole is off centre from the plastic trim. The ‘plug’ goes in but the screw doesn’t. So frustrating. I might try some silicone spray in there and have another go. Other than that, I’m stumped.

If it came off it must go back on. You probably need to be brave and give it a hard push over to bend it into place then get the screw in while it's pushed over. Trims often need a bit of force applied to get them into place.

“If it came off it must go back on”.
This is why it’s so frustrating. No amount of persuasion seems to help. Of course, it’s a tight spot to work in too. I’m sure I’ll get there in the end. And, if I don’t get there…well, it’s not quite the end ;).

Try wiggling the panel side to side and up and down to make sure the holes line up.
Otherwise you put in a fitting hex and gently tap it with a rubber hammer?

Thanks. I think that you’ve “hit the hex-screw on the head” there. That panel just doesn’t lineup with the holes no matter how much you shift it about. I noticed this when I was taking it off after taking out just one hex screw.
I’ll be having another go this weekend. (So glad to have the diesel heater!)

TY.
Hope other members can now pick him up.

Success!

Just in case someone has the same problem in the future here’s my solution:

To push the panel over to the left just a millimetre more than I could manage by hand, I inserted a couple of wedges/spacers temporarily. I also applied a bit of silicone spray to the fittings and holes and…voila! My wardrobe panel is back doing a wonderful job of panelling my wardrobe:)
