Deposit put down on new calfornia SE

My husband and I have just put a deposit down on a new calfornia SE, will pick up at the end of March. Totally new to camping/campervanning and need advice re the potential mistakes/pitfalls.
We are in our 50's have 2 cockerspaniels and want the freedom to travel. Initially would like to explore the UK with a view to travelling Europe in future years as we have a house in France. What's the best way to go about planning overnight stops. Do we need a camping guide book for sites. We prefer quiet spots, not big commercial sites, but obviously want washing facilities etc.
Any advice to get us up and running as it were would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the club and of course Cali ownership.

You'll find a raft of information here, some of which may appear bewildering but it'll all make sense in the end.

For Europe sites have a look at ACSI, although it is UK as well.
