My heater will not switch off. The overhead panel is switched off. But after a while the heater starts to blow out hot air while we are driving, as soon as you turn the ignition off it stops. Does anyone know which fuse is for the auxiliary heater as it doesn’t show which one it is in the owners manual ?

Are you sure it is the Diesel Parking Heater that is running. It is only powered by the Leisure Batteries.
Do you have the 3 Zone Climatronic AirCon heating system?
Is the Rear Zone set to a high temperature?
Is the Hot air coming from the vents in the base of the Drivers B pillar OR from the vent by the Rear Bench seat next to the sliding door?

Hi. The rear heater is switched off. The hot air is coming out at the vent on the b pillar at the bottom by the step which is the vent that comes on when I switch it on at the overhead control panel. The control panel is off, but when we are driving the vent has hot air coming out of it. What I was going to try is to take out the fuse see if that stops it, but I can’t find anywhere that tells you which fuse is for the auxiliary heater.

While you're in there, you might as well reset the Control Panel by pulling its fuse as shown above and replacing it.

Ok thanks
According to your Avatar info you have a T5.
No need to pull any fuses on this Control Panel.

Try Roof/Heater or Fridge

For those of you who don't know, if you ever get any problems with roof stuck or any other error say with the heater or fridge, you are able to access the hidden menu in your control panel as used by the VW Engineers.

Access as follows:

1. Hold down the centre of the rotary button together with the menu button (button below with the squares on it)

2. You will get the hidden menu.

3. Rotate the rotary button to get to "VW diagnose" and select this by pressing on the centre of the rotary button.

4. If no errors are present it will display "no errors"

5. If Errors are present then a list of errors will appear
Make a note of the errors.

6. Press the centre of the rotary button again to delete all the errors

7. Repeat process above just to check that errors have dissapeared!

8. Re-configure the time and date if neccesary.

Any problems should be resolved assuming these are Electronic and not Mechanical.

Have you got any further in sorting this problem?

This had happened to me. The panel in the back where the back seats are , head height just above side window drivers side was switched on!

Interesting these error codes. I own a T6 Coast. Are they also valid for a T6?
I do not need them now, because there are no problems, but they might be handy in the future.

Greetings from The Netherlands, Hans

The heater on my T5 switched on as a part of the warming up process for the engine on colder days. I used to get strange looks because of the smoke / steam coming out of the side of the van!

It is Control Panel Specific.
If you have this Control Panel - Yes.

Different Heater.
There are 2 diesel heaters on most Californias SE/ Ocean.
Parking Heater controlled by Control Panel - Only.
Engine Coolant Heater automatically switched on when engine started if ambient Temperature 5c or less. Some vehicles sold in Nordic countries have a controller for this Heater to pre-warm engine. This can be retrofitted by using 3rd party equipment.

That is a really helpful post - thanks. Would that process be the same for a T6 - or just a T5

I think it is the same panel according the knobs. Only the picture is slightly different. But that is probably because my cali has no electric roof.
You can but try as detailed.

Hi I have tried to press the rotary knob to get the Diagnostics Up but I don’t have a button with squares on it, my control panel is like the one pictured, several posts ago.
