Writing this on behalf of my husband - we (he) have lost the locking wheel nut for our 2011 Cali - we need to get the wheel off to fix or replace. I've contacted VW who advised £160 and a couple of months wait which :(
Does anyone know or have to sell or even lend (I'd cover postage of course) the attached nut - I'll be forever grateful, I just want to go away in the van over the 2-week Easter holidays

Any car tyre place will be able to remove. They will likely have to damage the bolt so you will need to get a new one.
the problem is we can't get it to anywhere, we are in the countryside and struggling to find a mechanic who will come out. I'll try again

If you are in West Meon might be worth a call to Micheldever Tyres.

If you are despite. I would try and use a 12 sided socket on this and hammer it on if all else fails. I would use a deep socket so you can tap it sideways if it jams.

This is a very much if you have no other options, but it is what I would do, you will need experiment with size of socket and you will want it to be just tight enough that you get a good bite.

I would get a Halfords set with 19mm -- 23mm would be my guess. You might even find an imperial AF socket is a better fit if it is in-between. You will also need a socket bar say 24" long or longer to attach to the socket. Be very gentle applying the leverage and any sign of slippage stop and wear safety googles and gloves.

I would definitely be spraying releasing oil or WD40/GT85 or whatever you have into the bold hole, as with that level of rust the bolt is likely to be solid.

I am sure you have turned the van upside down looking for the locking key, but have you taken everything out of the foam jack holder and checked inside every hole inc. tow ball cover etc.

Thank you, I spent yesterday emptying every single area of the van, we had a new tyre about 2 months ago and the jack was left on the drive for a week, I suspect the locking nut was also left there and I suspect ended up with gathered up with leaves etc. So annoying (& expensive!!)

I've got a VW Dub specialist about 10 miles away that I am going to call along with a couple of recommended garages first

Might be worth a good hunt around Amazon (just examples - they are a lot more generic than people think)

thank you, I can then order a replacement from VW as we don't want to be without one permanently
I would look absolutely square on to it and you might find it isn't exactly as it started life as.

Hi, when you sort this, I wouldn't bother replacing the locking wheel nut with another - I'd just fit a standard bolt to stop this sort of thing happening again.
I think the days of people stealing alloy wheels has largely gone, and so the locking nut doesn't seem to be worth the hassle.

Exactly what my husband said, we will replace all 4 with standard nuts

Andy - I am over in Alton - can lend you one but will need to keep a hold of it

Whilst searching the van, did you find four original wheel nuts/bolts in a bag? One nut/bolt would have been removed from the wheels when the locking wheel nuts were fitted.

I also did this as the adaptor socket (T6) for the bolt rounded the puzzle pattern and kept slipping off using the VW Spanner in the tool box (not 90deg between lever and socket head). Often carried a correct sized socket and ratchet handle , as only safe way to remove this type of bolt.

These guys were able to supply one when KwickFit Camden lost my wheel nut key for me when they were supposed to be putting snow tyres on in time for a Xmas trip to the Pyrenees - they didn't even apologise..or fit the tyres ....ho hum.

You just send a photo of your wheel bolt and proof of ownership of the vehicle as I recall (otherwise people would just use it to nick fancy wheels)

The service was very good apart from the Royal Mail delivery, which was in the prer Xmas postal madness, and I had to order a second one - they both arrived at the same time in the end - so now I have an accidental spare for the next time I go to KwickFit (Erm, that will be never by the way!)

Hope that helps if you haven't already sorted....

Stephen
