We have put the seat in the correct position for making the bed (with headsets removed). That means we have room for a very deep sliding drawer, but it also leaves a large wasted gap between the seat and the MFB.

I made up this 350mm deep shelf which fixes into the rails either side. It is just high enough to clear the boxes on the sliding drawer, and also just low enough to allow the bench seat to go flat without needing to remove the shelf.

We then have this folding table which fits on top of the new shelf and brings the level up to the MFB, which gives a nice big flat surface.

The shelf is made from 25mm box section aluminium and "easyfix" connections from here. There is plain box section, and also the box section with a lip which I used on the top part of the frame. I think this stuff is more usually used for exhibition stands. I then cut some furniture panel board to rest on the lip which brings it flush with the top of the frame.

I can share measurements if anyone is interested. Fairly easy to make, and adjust the height by trial and error!

good job

I have the same made in 12mm mdf. Its great for storing our IKEA topper there. I have also put sides on mine so I can store shoes etc between it and the ”wheel arches” as well as a masonite front part so I can extend the under seat drawer space rearward another 10cm or so, or store standing wine bottled when leaving Italy.
