Do we need a camping pitch with water tap and drainage ?

Hi everyone, very beginner question ! we haven't got our Cali yet so no idea if we should book this on a pitch or not? It'll be on a campsite in France staying for 1 week. How do you fill up the water tank, do you need a hose? Do you remove the tank ? Also grey water .. how do you empty this if we don't have drainage, would we have to move the van ?

I carry a hose about 7 or 8 metres long with a UK tap connector on it. On arrival remember to drive to a water fill point first and fill using your own hose. Dont use camp hoses as people sometimes swill out their shite buckets with them. You can also fill the tank various other ways. Even a good old 2l water bottle will do it. You don't remove the tank. The waste water is collected under the sink and will show on your panel when full. Enjoy

How do you fill up the water tank, do you need a hose?
Moving the cali near to the tap and a hose probably easiest, best to carry male & female hose connectors. Or like WG, can take a water carrier to the tap then empty that into the tank.

Also grey water .. how do you empty this if we don't have drainage, would we have to move the van ?
Best practice is to have the cali over a grey water drain then open the drain valve (inside the L cupboard). Have (accidentally) left the tap open on a grass pitch and not had a problem though...

We find this a very practical solution. Search for HEOSwater 5251 universal connector

No don’t pay for water and drainage. There will be taps around the site and a drain: you can fill up and dump waste when you go out.

Stop at a tap on way in or out fo campsite .... bit of short hose, all done in a couple of minutes. If not moving then a 5L folding bucket and a collapsible funnel with a bit of hose on the end (firmly fixed, you don't want it falling in to the tanker)...

Emptying ... collapsible bucket I not moving, drive over the MH disposal grid if moving.

French sites will normally have a Motohome (Camping Car) dedicated facility for water filling and draining plus toilet emptying. Can be a bit of a wait if a Great White gets there for up to an hour!

We just use a 10ltr can for fresh water and fill the kettle from a tap as required and use the on site wash up facilities instead of the onboard ones.

You can get get water, waste disposal and a Private Toilet on some sites. at a price of course.

Take a 5ltr bottle of water from Tesco or the like for drinking en route rather than lug a full tank all the way to France. Gives a bit of leeway whilst you find where the site facilities are located.

We normally find a full tank of water lasts us absolutely ages. Carry a couple of bottles of water to drink and use the water tank for cups of tea and cooking. It’s the big motorhomes with a shower that use lots of water. As for the waste tank that normally gets emptied at the end of the Holiday.
