Hi Duvalay users,
We are considering Duvalay toppers for the upper bed, does anyone use 2 x 58cm Duvalay toppers on the upper bed, by my reckoning the width up there is 110cm and wondering if the extra 6 cm is an issue?

Thanks
Ken

Yes, I think you will find that if the mattress touches the sides the water will seep in when it rains. Better to get the one which fits the downstairs bed and have a little gap at the sides, you can always use it downstairs as well if you need.

Thanks and very good point, have had that experience in camping days gone by.

Do you have experience of using the lower bed Duvalay upstairs, the website indicates 115cm which may still be a bit wide?

Thanks
Ken

Is the upper bed not wider? I use mine up and down and have actually taken the original upper mattress out as I have found that the Duvalay is comfortable on its own and can be left in place with the roof down.

I had a sleeping revelation last night. Normal mattress in top, covered in Vango SI mattress, covered with Duvalay mattress. Comfort was off the charts and as good as our expensive bedroom mattress. I slept for 8.5 hours solid which I never do!

Yup - the upper bed wider (120 vs 115). Lower mattress works perfect with a small gap to avoid any contact with the outer.

Hi Ken,
We have these Duvalay toppers from CamperVantastic. Super comfortable and easy to roll out as the the sheets are already fitted. Easy to roll up and store when travelling. Perfect fit in the pop top bed !

Thanks, that is really helpful these are the toppers we had in mind - did you go for the silver, gold or freshtec ones - seems difficult to find a local stockist to have a look.

They only did one type for this set up as per the advert, I believe Ken. We purchased the zip on sheets making it so easy to set the bed up . Game changer for us sleeping up there !

Just to add, I think CamperVantastic have these made for them by Duvalay, hence why there is only one type of mattress offered. Check with them anyway just in case.

Hi, I think you are right, Campervantastic’s sizes are slightly different and I think made specifically, I will have a chat with them we have been previous customers for stuff.
Out of interest did you ever use your downstairs - thinking when pop top not a good idea?

Hi, We haven't slept in the downstairs yet . I think you could use these on the lower bed albeit oversize but they will work ok.

Good to see another recent thread on mattress toppers and the subsequent views.
We are still with the original Vw mattress on downstairs bed and similar on top. I can’t say we’ve found it that uncomfortable, even with regular ( rectangular ) sleeping bags but now considering Duvalay compact sleeping bags as an addition.
As we use both beds we’re thinking 77cm downstairs and 66 cm upstairs. My husband is downstairs and 6.1” felt he needed the larger of the two.
Any thoughts or advice, albeit this thread is ‘toppers’ ( I couldn’t find any recents on sleeping bags !

I'd advise not to unless you have something better than the "Comfort" mattress - totally incorrectly named.
I've slept on softer camp beds than that thing - every single pressure point found and by morning I wasn't only knackered from a lack of sleep but in pain and stiff!!

Might just be my sensitive body but never again. Now looking for alternative mattress

The Duvalay one is 190x115 so shouldn't be oversized for downstairs, and could be used upstairs too with 2.5cms gap either side.
By comparison the Campervantastic ones are 195x116.

In my head I'm thinking the downstairs bed is 200x115 but may be wrong.

We felt the same pain when using the VW 'comfort' mattress downstairs, we now double up with a Duvalay topper to get a good nights sleep. We have just got a Vango 2.5cm inflatable mattress which we will try out this summer when sleeping up top.

This has been really useful, we are looking at the 5cm Freshtec and after weighing up the 2 singles from Duvalay which would be 190x116 (£320) and the double from Campervantastic 195x116 (£243) we are leaning towards the double from campervantastic.

Professional moochers do a video on YouTube demonstrating the double upstairs (a bit shy upstairs but manageable) as gives option for the non -opt top days.

Will post when the deed is done.

Hi Ken,
Checking CamperVantastic site on the 2 single Duvalays we purchased, they measure 200 x 60 each if this helps, thus they fit the pop top bed perfectly.

Hi, are yours 2.5cm or 5cm thick? I can only see 2.5cm on the campervantastic site but your original link (with the +++ in) does mention 5cm. The revised link is to Duvalay which is the single ones I have considered.

Thanks

Pinkitee. We have two duvalay fresh rec sleeping bags. They’re pricey but have been very successful even on long trips
Your suggestion is interesting. We roll ours up each morning because usually the advice is to leave nothing in the pop top. We have a 6.1 with the sprung bed upstairs. Do you think safe to leave the two duvalay bags there (without mattress)?
