Hi
We purchased an Ecoflex portable charger last year on the Amazon prime event and it is a great addition to our van when off grid.
We are interested in buying the alternator charger in the next Amazon prime event but cannot find any reviews (youtube shows installation on Fiat Ducato / ranger type 4x4s) or installation advise in a VW California (we have a 2012 VW T5.1)
Does any one have any pictures / advice for installing / routing the cable from engine bay etc & any ‘dos or don’ts
Would really appreciate some feedback.
Thanks

I think depends if you want maximum charging efficiency. Some connect to a leisure battery, others to the alternator feed under the lefthand seat (best).

I installed the 800w alternator charger (originally bought for another car that I no longer own) to the starter battery.

I have a left hand drive Transporter (2013) that was converted to a full California Ocean interior by a previous owner.

Found a grommet in the middle of the engine bay, more or less behind the middle console (where the shifter is). I used that to route the cable to the inside, then to the left behind the paddles (for a RHD it would be passenger side). Then down across the wheel arch behind the interior clothing.

Removed the side step (clips) and tucked away the EcoFlow thick cable (with a bend), then resurfaced just behind it.

I hope the pictures make it clear. If not, ask me.

Thanks - that’s really helpful

You are welcome.

It’s a bit of fiddling as the cable is a bit long. Part of it is curled up behind the starter battery, part is curled up under the side stepping board.

I also had to cut a hole in the grommet to feed it through the firewall to the inside, not sure if it remains all water proof that way, but till now I have had any issues and don’t plan to swim with the Cali .

It may be not the nicest and cleanest way to do it, but it works for me.

I hope it can be done the same way on a RHD.
