Hi all,
Having real trouble trying to replace the rear silencer on my 2.4D Cali. Have hit dead ends with both my local van centres who just told me to call VW Heritage. Could anyone point me in the direction of a correct part number, or a more helpful garage in the Bedfordshire / Hertfordshire area? Maybe VW Heritage is the only way?

Thanks for your thoughts.

We can be of more help if we know the year of Manufacture of your vehicle. Might even be able to get a part number.:thumb

There are some specialists who are familiar with t4s (attend the shows) who'll make you a stainless steel one. (at sensible money). I'll see if I can find a name when I'm home.

You could try Eurocarparts or German, Swedish and French. Both cover a very wide range of parts and I think offer free delivery or collection from a branch. It might be worth calling VW too. Their price might surprise you (in a good way) and you can guarantee a decent lifespan and easy fitting.

Seemed very competent and fair when I met them at busfest. They are in Louth.
They explained that 'factory' steel exhausts are fine but replacement steel ones are hopeless, hence their market for 'buy once' stainless steel.

Yes, sorry, it's a 1991 2.4d.
Thanks for everyone's recommendations, I'll try them all.

I have a PPT on a '91 2.4. It's well made, although it had an extraneous hanger. I would have sent that part back but I was desperately trying to pass an MOT at the time, so it's just positioned out of the way...

It's a direct replacement (2 silencers, twin downturns at the back) but I do find it a bit noisy, booms around 2k rpm.

I tried to fit it myself, but couldn't get the old one off, so got it done by the local tyre and exhaust place (who had to cut it off!)

I can't recommend Jason at PPTuning enough. Top bloke! I let him have my 2.4D Syncro for a few months and he made up a whole new system from scratch and he also made a jig too to make a load more due to the complex run involved. Its gave the 2.4D a new lease of life and I goes and sounds like it should!

Very smart Matt..
I've not the budget for a PPT system unfortunately. I got a replacement from Eurocarparts for £42. It's not exactly the same back box that came off the bus; the silencer is a lot larger, (cylindrical rather than oval) but it fits perfectly without adjustment, it just doesn't look as snug as the box it replaced.
