Exhaust system

Can anyone tell me if the California ocean exhaust system be showing signs of outer rust on and 18 month old vehicle with 7,000 on the clock. Is this normal or should it be investigated under warranty? I have attached a photo. Any view would be appreciated

Would have to fail before a warranty case. Surface rust is 'normal' but as you say worrying.

Yeah, but im not happy about that hole, its only 14 years old.
Probably a big stone has hit it.

Well it’s not leaking so a spot of Liquid Metal or similar will sort it.

No, no. Aluminium.
Then you can have galvanic corrosion top and bottom.

Ah, well there's the answer.
It looks like the newer ones are made in Spain by
Magneti Marelli.

Mine looks to be German - DE.
Mines even got a smart vw logo on it, they obviously had more pride
in their work back in the day.

Don't worry, all is well with your exhaust system.
As the rear box is double skinned they go on for years.

My 10-year-old system has had at least 3 MOTs with an advisory about the rear box, but until it leaks no failure.

I took my half rusted outer shell off. Had a warning from the MOT.
Part of it is still on it. Passed the MOT with that without warning.
