Looking for some extra storage. Hoping some of you have some experience on the advantages/disadvantages of either option I am considering. It's mostly for low weight/wet stuff. Walking boots, snorkling masks, toys for the kids, etc.

Considering:

1) a roofbox:

- Fits in front of the single solar panel.
- 50/75 KG storage
- I believe it can stay on the roof while opening the roof, but that doesn't feel right.
- Makes the Cali higher then 2.0 meters
- Harder to reach then bike rack strorage

2) a waterproof bag on the bike rack
(Like the look of the Thule EasyBag)
- We hardly ever bring bikes
- 50 KG storage
- May not be able to open the tailgate (while the bag is in place)
- Makes the van longer

Have considered other options, like the Thule easy rack on the tow bar but don't like the looks of it.

Tow bar mounted - MFT Backbox (see photo) boot to be opened fully. + Can still use the VW bike rack.

Roof box - work well but need to stand on the tyre to load….or get one of the small footholds that attach to the door sill. Shadow might impact on the performance of your solar panel.

Easy bag - Easy for a thief, they just slice the bag with a knife.
Boot will open fine, you could always fit some uprated struts if you need more oomph!…but found them not that easy to use due to soft sides, plus the one we tried had top mounted zip + was a bit of a faff to remove / install…versus a roof box or towbar box. So we sold it.

Small trailer ?
Wet bag, to chuck inside when you away from van.
And when travelling it can stay wherever.
