I'm about to fit a tracker which requires a separate 12v Switched and 12v Un-switched wire.

I'm planning to fit it above the radio so it has direct line of sight.

I was going to follow this thread http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62584 and take both of these feeds off the fuse block underneath the cigarette lighter but not of the empty fuses are powered.

The other option was under the front seat off the leisure battery but there are no switched lives under there from what I can tell.

In the old days I would have taken the feed from the Radio but I hate cutting wires and not sure how this works with CANBUS these days anyways.

So, any ideas where I can get a 12v switched, 12v un-switched an earth in a neat way near the stereo / glovebox?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers, Rich

I think I would investigate the back of the ignition switch.

From reading up on the T5 in general it seems there are only 2 places to get a switched live from, fuse 19 from the fuse box under the cup holder and the lights!

Same as written here actually http://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/electrical-accessory-wiring-connection.4093/

Hi, the best place to take a feed for this is from the thick black/yellow wire on the back of the headlight switch. You will need to add an appropriate fuse at this point as well as the circuit is 30 amp rated. All the other switched circuits are too sensitive to carry additional loads of any size.

If your expected load will not exceed 3 amps then you could take it from the brown/red wire at the rear of fuse 19. This supply stays live until you remove the key so you could still operate the GPS without the engine running.
Hope this helps.

I'd still try it on the radio wiring.
When I wired our radio into the leisure battery the Canbus didn't get upset so for the sake of convenience it may be worth a try. You could just push your wires into the relevant slots on the connector block to try it out.

Thanks, not sure I want to start messing with the CANBUS but might be worth a try.

Any ideas which one might be a switched live?

Sorry - just answered your other thread. Just to add I used the supply to passenger window as in other thread to supply a tracker. It is also easy to remove the glove box which gives ample space to place the aerial under the dash mid-windscreen, and there's loads of space here to leave the device.

Thanks, I replied to the other one, but this is great info!

This is standard wiring code and I'm pretty sure this is how the Cali is wired as well. When I connected the radio to the LB I joined the red and yellow together without any problems. Obviously dead easy to get at these wires from behind the radio with the dash tray out.

Isn't it a completely different ballgame with CANBUS?

No that standard wiring is the same. There are extra wires for the Canbus connection. All I can say is that the Canbus wasn't affected by wiring into the LB. All the MFD displays still worked OK along with the reversing sensors on the screen of the RNS.

Thanks, but what's LB?

reserves is correct - whilst the standard ISO wiring layout remains, I'm pretty sure the terminal marked as switched is not actually so - it's either not connected or it remains constant feed.
It's the CAN message for sleep and wake that control the unit turning on & off.

Pretty sure you can get a simple ignition feed CAN bus interface from connect 2 or similar.

Edited : went for a quick search:

Igni-genCAN.2 looks to suit your requirements - although I've not used one so it would need further verification prior to purchase to ensure it's compatible with the vehicle in question.

Thanks, can't find anywhere that sells them, but I'll keep searching!
