French Insurance/California Club

Our California is based in France and we are struggling to find an insurance company that will arrange insurance for a campervan in France. Direct Assurance for example just refuses and will only insure a VW Transporter - their overseas call centres have never heard of a VW California let alone an Ocean..... Has anyone else had this problem and are there any recommendations ?
We were also wondering if there exists a French California Club but cannot find it with a Google search.

We have a California 6.1 Beach Tour and insure it in France with Allianz.
Bit more expensive than the UK but any driver over 18 can drive it.

Their online quote system do know about California T6.1 for example, whereas a lot of other insurance don't.

We use AXA in Nice to insure our Cali. Native English speakers work for them.
