My fresh water pump failed a few months ago so took the DIY approach and fitted a replacement myself - pretty straighforward. Didn't throw the old one away just in case it could be resurrected, but curiosity got the better of me today so I got the hacksaw out an opened it up...to find water inside the motor so no surprise it failed! Bit disappointing that a submersible pump can't cope with being submersed. Now bought another genuine VW pump to keep as a spare as if this is a design flaw then I guess in time the one I fitted a few months ago will also fail at some point.

Mine was still going strong after 10years.

Have you ever put something like Milton in the water tank to try and disinfect it?
The stainless steel shaft on the motor can corrode under the seal with chloride based disinfectants and let water in.
