Fridge removal and replacement

Anyone out there replaced their fridge in a T6.1 Ocean? I need to replace the fridge door catch (as it opens on its own when driving over rough ground) and have been told by VW that I will need to remove and replace the fridge to carry out this job. Any one got any tips, advice. Is it a big job? Any Photos? How long will it take. etc, etc. I have found quite a lot of stuff on this matter here but I want to be sure I have the most up to date info, experience. I hope you can help me. My Cali is a T6.1 Ocean.

I had the fridge removed by VW on my 6.1 to fix the slide cupboard door catch. They had trouble with the fridge hinge bolts and had to drill out and then replace a hinge!! Just a warning to take your time and take care doing it. Most of us will take more care than a mechanic who is used to hammering of ball joints rather than delicate hinges!! I almost did the job myself, but they covered under some other items under VW used warranty.

If it’s a new van its probably the fridge seal that’s to tight and causing the fridge to open on its own , mines doing this on a 24 ocean , I didn’t like the idea of vw replacing the catch as I don’t think it would cure the problem , I’ve filled an old rubber hot water bottle with sand (3 kg ) and placed over the catch on top of the fridge lid and after a few days the catch is working fine , it’s a bit trial and error but worked for me as it’s compressing the new seal , might be worth a go if you have this problem

I had exactly the same problem, so I bought the OEM spare part and took it to Mark Volksvans (FB page) near Belper.
He took 30 mins to do the job, without having to completely remove the fridge.
He's done a few of these, hence being a whizz at it
