Hi all - newbie question as just getting our new purchase ready for our first camping trip at the weekend. The fridge in the t6 - apart from the switch and light on the overhead control panel is there anything else you need to do to switch the fridge on? Or is there a way to know it’s working (without the obvious ie it getting colder!) trying it out and been in for a while but doesn’t seem to be getting any colder!

What Temperature Level have you got it set to?

Had it in 4 and then set to max. Can’t hear anything by the fridge like a compressor or any noise at all

Not right.

Try this.

Check Control Panel Diagnostics.
Control Panel Off, L lower button, and wait 30 secs
Control Panel On
Press and Hold R lower button and then press Control Knob for 5 secs.
New Hidden Menu . Scroll to VW Diagnostics.
If there are any codes shown, take note and then Reset/Clear.
Return to Main Menu.
Switch Off Control Panel using L lower button. Wait 30 secs and Switch On.
Try Roof/Heater or Fridge

No errors. Heater and roof all work fine. Just nothing from the fridge

The fridge makes a fairly audible whirr when it is working. Check the fuse - it is a 10 amp red one in the fuse box below the seat. Look for location 19 - it is one of the fuses on the end of the fuse box.

What age is your Cali, there was a fridge issue on some 2019 vehicles.

The fridge is very very quiet. Open the cupboard and listen near the bottom. Set it to 7 which is max. Maybe buy a small thermometer off Ebay. As said if it's dead Check the fuse first

You can here mine come on when commanded by the overhead panel. Slight humm from compressor. 2018.

Are you trying on hook up or battery? If on battery, what is the charge status?
If you’re on hook up then checking fuse, as mentioned, is first step.

Ok so checked the fuse and it had blown, however soon as try to put a new one in it blows immediately! Also the relay next to the fuse wasn’t fully connected

Anyone any ideas what to check what’s causing the fuse to blow instantly?

Could be a stuck compressor motor. Try giving it a tap with something.mother than that it doesn't look good and you may need to think about taking the whole fridge out for repair

As @flying banana has said, failed compressor or a fault in the fridge controller or a short circuit in the power feed to the fridge.
If you unplug the fridge and reinsert the fuse, if it blows - short circuit in the wiring. If that’s OK then should be something in the fridge controller or compressor.

You can tell the fridge is on because the fridge button on the overhead panel turns red whilst its on.

Recently had a problem with my fridge (2016) turned out to be the controller.

Update….. new fridge and controller fitted under warranty.

looks like a faulty controller to blame
