When I had a T5.1 I bought some rubber profile after a reccomendation on here to stop me losing stuff down the front of the dash between dash and windscreen. Now I have a T6.1 does anyone know if there is the same issue and if so any recommendations for the right profile and length to sort the issue? Also any issues if have the heated screen?

Thanks

Yes, same issues, same rubber too afaik and no issues with heated screen - they don’t get that hot.

Anyone got a link to the rubber profile, seem to remember i bought mine from ebay (but most likely 10 years ago now)?

Here's where I bought mine although there are others, some cheaper, this arrived quickly and was just the job. I trimmer the ends to fit in the corners but it is difficult to get the exact length so I cut the strip in half, trimmed an end of each half to fit neatly into the corner and the trimmed the centre where the two halves over lapped before super gluing the halfs back together leaving about 50mm left over.

Ordered, thanks for your help

I've seen these on the forum over the years and so far managed to hold out.......... but now I'm suffering from a little FOMO

We have had our van for 3 years now and never lost anything down the gap.............. is it really difficult to retrieve stuff that does get in there?

Impossible

That's the kiss of death, right there :D

I lost the dashcam filter down there and had to be a cross between a contortionist and gynecologist to get it back out.

30 seconds later I was ordering the rubber strip from THQ

Haha, yeah I know ......... I'm hovering over the order button now!

Me too, is it obvious to you which way the profile goes in??

I’ve retrieved parking receipts and a tax disc from there. It’s not too hard for these things. You just need a something long flat and thin to get in there in between the thing you want to retrieve and the dashboard and then press again the windscreen to pull it back up.

If something smaller and thicker gets wedged in there, i imagine that, yes, it’ll stay there forever.

It isn't that obvious, but I read that the "sharks fin" is the bit that goes between the glass and the dash. There is a fitting video on YouTube.

I finally got around to fitting this today, very easy and all done in a couple of minutes!

The thought occurred to me that an unintended bonus is that any condensation on the inside of the front screen when camping will no longer be able to dribble down into the gap that the dash trim has now filled. This was never a major issue but sometimes when wiping the screen beads of water would dissappear down the gap......... maybe not a problem? but always 'felt wrong' when it happened.

Either way, I won't have to worry about losing stuff (that I never have in 3 years!) now :D

Thanks, I wasn't aware about this as a problem, but having had a look at my new T6.1 I can see the potential. The UK site selling these does not ship to Ireland, so I googled the part.

You can buy the exact same item (even the photos are the same) on aliexpress for €3.18, including taxes and shipping, or €0.89 for your first order! (www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007204788459.html).

Had to remove part of my old T5.1 dash, found pens, parking tickets money, sweet wrapper etc etc and a shed load of dirt and fluff.

The only way to retrieve stuff that goes into the "Gap in the universe " is to remove lots of under dash gubbins.

Get the rubber and forget about any future issues.
