Currently booked in for Service and MOT at JCT600 Cleckeaton West Yorkshire, few grand California's in the car park so hopefully in good hands.

Just had my inspection video sent though and a failed crankshaft oil seal at 28k miles.

I have been told extended warranty dose not cover "oil leaks" and this is true to the documentation, but a failed crankshaft oil seal its more than just an oil leak.

Currently looking at a 1.2k bill minimum, all belts required to be replaced due to contamination, so for now no trips out for me.

I will keep this thread updated, hopefully it can be fixed soon, its nearly camping season.

Yepp. The crankshaft oil seal leaked on my 2017 Ocean. The warranty specifically excluded oil leaks.

But is hard to swallow when you know it is a poorly designed oil seal that has failed.

To save a few pennies, consider going to an independent VW garage for the work to be done

How can this possibly not be down to VW to fix? A prematurely failed part has caused an oil leak. Surely a goodwill repair?

I will be pushing on them for it, others have and it's worked in their favour.

It's an oil leak by nature but a serious mechanical fault in my eyes.

I had the same problem with my 68 Ocean at about 32k miles. I was on an All-In extended warranty and the claim was rejected as anything to do with oil is specifically excluded.

I thought this ridiculous and escalated with customer care. They investigated and their final email response said:

The rectification of oil leaks is not covered and the cost of seals and gaskets will only be accepeted where they are required as a direct consequence of a valid claim under the Warranty.

My bill was about £1,400 including VAT.

I had naturally expected to be covered for such a failure, so very disappointing.

That’s absolutely crazy. Again, it’s premature failure. How can oil seals failing at 30K miles be acceptable? Wonder what a judge would say?
