The lid of the glovebox on the dashboard of my recently acquired T5.1 would not stay up/open. One needs to use two hands, one keeping the lid up and the other to search for items in the glovebox. The dealer claims that this is normal. Is this true?

Mine stays up.

If the dealer says it’s normal it must be Dealers know everything about the vehicles they sell

...it suppose to come with a support to keep it up , ask the dealer maybe he can order it at the factory . Those small items are tend to get lost frequent.

Serious now , what kind of dealer say such thing ? Cars in the 1950 had this maybe .

I hope you are being ironic Calikev...!

The lid should stay up at the end of it's travel. As it is a plastic support, something may have become broken.

The value of a forum such as this! Thank you to everyone that responded. The vehicle is back at the dealers to sort some minor niggles, and I will certainly test the glovebox when re-united on Friday. I presume I have not pushed it up hard enough to "stick".

I have trouble keeping mine up as well, maybe it is an age thing?

I just opend mine (2004/5) and it stayed open and when I close it it „clicks“ in.

Thought that we had the same for the first few months of ownership of our 2nd hand t5.1 and committed to investigate. Armed with determination and screwdriver, truly happy to find that a little extra force was all that was needed to push into hold open mode!!

Mine is the same, I tried to remove the glove box to see if the mechanism could be made a little less brutal but could remove it, so gave up !

You should have used a 'Birmingham screwdriver' then...
