Good safe spots for Kayaking up to an hour from Coniston

Hi all we have a few days booked at Coniston to give our kayaks a go . Got a few extra spare days to fill .Anyone recommend any other sites within an hour of the Coniston that has lake / river access . Don’t want to travel to far as filling up the van with diesel is causing great distress Must add we are new to the kayak game so no rapids ! Gentle paddling only
