This is such a good review... the guy who wrote that did not just do the usual car reviewee "oh he is got a sink".

Having spent a lot of time deciding between these two, I can see a lot of work went in the article.

Very unusual these days.

I was toying between the VW and the Marco Polo. It was the exact same rubbish window blinds that swung me to the VW.

An interesting read.. .. But lack of proper usable boot space makes the Nugget a complete non-starter for us.

A reassuring read..... I still have the right campervan.

Great review - thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing, as you say a good thorough article.

Although anyone here is unlikely to say "oh, I must rush out and buy a Nugget", if we look ahead to the next version of the "VW" Transporter then by all accounts it is due to be made by Ford and badged as a VW. I for one will not be parting with £80-100k, in ten years time, to buy a Ford based campervan. I will be looking after our 6.1 very carefully over the coming years. In the 5 months since we collected our van it has been utterly brilliant and we cannot imagine being without it. But a Ford one, no way!

The "Nugget" review in this months MMM was also interesting but also forget to check how access to the kitchen/toilet area is managed when the roof/bed is down, hardly an unusual occurrence.
The lack of storage for larger items is also alluded to but not fully explained.
Most California's also carry a porta potti 335 either in the kitchen side cupboard or boot area to be pulled out for use when required, cos they can.
As the review pointed out the Nugget cost about the same as an Ocean, unfortunately it is not even close in its specification, sophistication or iconic status. Admittedly I am suffering from a massive case of confirmation bias so such comments are easily discounted, probably.

For us using the cooker with the roof down is a must day van mode works for us esp during times of COVID and on winter days out. Do no fancy trying to use the nugget rear cooker on my knees with roof down.

I find the MMM review very basic. I came to exactly the same conclusions as the parkers review. The ford should be way cheaper to be considered. In real life, it is more expensive as even simple aircon is a 1,000 option.

And fundamentally it still looks like a posh builder's van.

The review mentions hot and cold water for the kitchen sink in each van - has this development passed me by entirely, or is it just an error?

I can't see the layout working for us:
Can't access the fridge whilst driving
luggage stored where you need to stand to cook
I can't see any opening windows in the cooking area
Doesn't look like like you can use the swivelled front seats when the bed is made up
The lack of sliding bench & kitchen placement limits its usefulness as a van when not camping

There is a great review of the Marco polo from my camper.eu on you tube. These guys are so knowledgeable on cali/marco/nugget and even mycamsper...

I contacted them last month but they would not supply a rhd cali.

The Marco polo has a very impressive dashboard and central screen.

I never considered that one so went on mercedes.co.uk to try to get some info and the website is so sing. Clearly, mercedes uk does not give a monkey about selling their Marco polo...

I cancelled my Marco polo order last week and collect a Cali demonstrator this morning, this was because MBUK were not able to conform deliveries. Its a nice looking van but risks on delivery pushed me to the Cali demonstrator

An error I hope as mine certainly doesn’t have hot water!! In my dreams..

Totally agree. Great bunch of enthusiasts. Bought my LHD Coast Edition through them last month.

Hot water is only available on the LWB Nugget.
Has the lwb arrived in the UK? I have to say, this one got us excited with 5 seats and toilet but it lacks the excitement of a two tone cali and will be far too expensive once you add air con, sat nav, xenon and maybe air suspension so it drops below 2m to get access to French beaches..
