We are heading to France we have a few nights booked in the Dordogne.
Leaves us a couple of weeks to explore other areas any tips on where to head and places to visit?

We're going in September. My best mate is an archaeologist and has worked at alot of the prehistory sites. He's said that "Cap Blanc is excellent. Font de Gaume is very special, but it tends to be fully booked up months in advance. The prehistory museum in Les Eyzies is good. The Cro Magnon museum is ok, a bit dated and small-scale, but ok."

Currently in Le Mans. 40 degC expected over the next couple of days. Be prepared and aware of the heat :)

You might want to head to the coast in that heat. We used to head to Île de Ré which is ostensibly a cycling island but has sandy beaches and normally a sea breeze. Head across via Cognac for some fortification. Royan is the ‘wild coast’ and also worth a visit.

We love the town of Sarlat-le-Caneda and the area around it - right on the Dordogne river. Small bastide towns like Beynac, Domme, La Roque Gageac. Rocamadour (a little further west) is stunning, not least with its Black Madonna. If you like monkeys roaming semi-wild, try La Foret des Singes nearby. Beautiful area but, yes, will be very hot. We also enjoyed Lot to the south - eg Cahors & St Cirq Lapopie, both on the River Lot. Less busy than the Dordogne but we thought just as beautiful.

I agree with all of these choices if you are staying in the area.
