Headlamp Protectors

Hi I've bought some headlamp protectors for the T6, and am at a point where I really can't see how the bottom lip can fit in between the bottom of the light and the bumper - the panel gap seems far too small. Does anyone have any bright (pardon the pun) ideas, or similar experiences?
I really don't want to break the covers on install, but even a healthy nudge won't push them in past the writing on the tab at the bottom.
