Happy new year to you all.
I get into van no lights on , switch is on zero off .
Key turned once engine off .
Front lights only come on , camping mode is off .
No reason front lights come on , is there setting to stop this ?

Problem is my van on drive faces next door lounge window , so they have my lights blaring on them .
Any ideas

I have a similar issue, lighting up front of facing house. Turn you lights from auto to off and only turn on when ready to depart or need them. Also have you got coming home turned on as lights will turn on when unlocking or opening the door.

That’s how they are supposed to work. It’s not your headlights, it’s daytime running lights, required by law & fitted to all new cars for the last couple of years.

With camping mode turned on you can have those lights off with ignition on. Start the engine though and camping mode is then turned off and the light come on.

Try leaving the selector switch in the sidelight position, they will come on instead of the DRL’s and are not as bright.

There is also a 'Swedish' setting which activates your headlights permanently on ignition. You can program your lights with OBDeleven or Carista. Standard setting is: Front Daylights, no lights at the back on ignition

I programmed this with OBDEleven on my van. If I have the switch on zero off all the lights stay off even with the engine running. I mainly use this if I need to keep the motor running for a bit to use my Victron BuckBoost DC-DC charger to charge my leisure batteries with the alternator in remote locations (solar in winter absolutely sucks). Would also be useful in your use case. To enable DRL you need to then put he switch into the Auto position. Just don't forget to do that before driving off!

You can turn them off with Carista. takes a few seconds

Once done - If headlights are set as 'Off' DRLs will not come on, but will come on if set to 'Auto', irresepective of whether engine is running.

You can also adjust the duration of coming home / leaving home lights, or switch the feature off to conserve your battery if camping for a few days...and saves annoying other campers!

I don’t think you’re correct there. It’s not been possible for me to turn off the DLRs via Carista - the function looks to be baked in as it’s a safety feature. My experience is on our 6.1 Ocean btw, same van as the OP. The T5 may be different.

When on a site, we try and point the van into the bushes if possible. Even with the headlights set to ’off’ the DLRs still shine brightly. We have turned down the timers to minimum though, as you suggest.

Works fine on our T5.1.

It is possible to have DRLs off while handbrake is on on 6.1. Not sure if Carista has put the required module codes together.

Is that with the ignition switched on? If so, what do you do to achieve this please - several threads on this in the past 2 years without a solution being found?

Edit - It looks like DLRs can be programmed ‘off’ via an OBD2 device on the T5.1 and T6 models (cite @WelshGas post below). I have tried on our T6.1 with LED headlights and haven’t been able to change the function when ignition is turned on.

Vehicles first used after March 2018 will fail the MOT if the DRL’s aren’t working.

Anyone find a good solution to this ?

We've resorted to using pair of towels to cover both headlights when leaving camp early hours. Otherwise those camped infront get lit up like they're on stage at Wembley

I use the Carista tool to toggle this off. The specific setting turns DRLs off when the light switch is in the OFF position.

It's a really handy bit of kit I use to set a whole bunch of niggly little things.
