Heat Immediately/Heat Continuously - Finally it makes sense!

I don't quite understand the problem. The remote control for the heater operates the last heater used. During the winter months, I regularly use it to preheat the engine and cabin of my Ocean T6.1. Fifteen to half an hour before departure, I start the water heater with the remote control. It's important that you select the coolant heater the first time while you're in the car. You can't switch between air heating and coolant heating with the remote control. It seems strange to me that I would have the software for northern countries, since Belgium is further south than the UK.
I can confirm I have 9M4 option in my ocean T6.1. I can operate air heater or water heater with remote control, whatever heater was last used in the vehicle. Maybe others only have 7VF option.
It does seem odd. The only way to really tell is via VCDS and read the software version of the heater. Do you have access to?

As you describe above is exactly what I’m expecting to see once the heater is flashed.

had to just go out in the snow to see what options I have and given it is well into the minus temps and still snowing, disappointed to confirm that I only have the air heater option. Will reach out to the German chap and see if I can get this done remotely as they discribe. Would think Poland gets cold enough to qualify for this but apparently not as standard.

Ok so to close this off, the dongle arrived from Germany. Software downloaded onto the lappy and a very nice gent from Germany remotely connected to my van and flashed the water heater (parking heater).
Now I have a Nordic spec which allows selection and operation of the water heater without running the engine.
Works via the remote and overhead screen.
As usual, whatever is preselected under the Operating mode comes on with the remote or Heat Immediately.
Switched it on this morning and after about 10 mins the dash blower activated and started pumping warm air. 20 mins had the cabin toasty.

All I need to do now (more for my own OCD) is swap the starter battery out for a 95Ah lump just to mimic the factory setup.

If anyone wants this done, drop me a PM and I’ll send the contact details of the chap from Germany. I paid Euro 100 plus shipping.

Awesome very interested as spent the last week at -15 overnight on the drive!

Tried messaging but no luck - will try from PC maybe it’s a phone thing.

Beware : on coast or beach you may need more than this: I looked up on my 2021order : 9M4 option was 500,- euro extra at the time for ocean. For beach or coast option 9M4 was 2600,- euro in price list.

Probs because on the ocean the heater was fitted so simply a software option whereas on the Coast/Beach it may not have been fitted so higher cost?

9M4 is the auxiliary air heater I believe. Best way to check is the stickers inside front door, two stickers, two heaters one air and one water.

I am waiting for the dongle to arrive then will have the flash done remotely and report back.

To successfully perform the software update that Sidepod performed on a Coast or Beach T6.1 model, it must already have option 7VF. This is programmable air heating with remote control and water heating (not programmable and without remote control). Option 7VF was listed for €2,100 in the 2021 price list, only for Coast/Beach.
Option 9M4 was listed for €2,600 for Coast/Beach.
Option 9M4 was listed for €500 for Ocean.
With the software upgrade (and larger starter battery) you transform 7VF in 9M4 on coast/beach.

I understand you have already air and water heater, but do you also have remote for air heater ?
If 2 heaters but no remote you have option 7VG not 7VF.
I hope everything goes as well for you as it does for Sidepod.

Thanks Roger. I have 2 heaters and the remote. Don’t see any issues but need to wait for the dongle to arrive.

On the 6.1 all that is required is one remote. The single remote controls whatever is selected under Operating mode so, if Aux Air is selected then the remote controls this, if any other option is selected then remote will control that.

Once switched on via remote, whatever option is selected will behave according to Heat Immediately parameters ie max 120 mins or whatever time you have selected.

I never got involved in new vehicle order specs so I don’t know what was originally available on a UK vehicle.

It’s been obvious all along it was mind bogglingly confusing.

Anyway, this thread is primarily about reconfiguring the WATER heater which I believe is bog standard on every van so the re-flash should do what it’s supposed to.

So successful reflashing has enabled water heater, functions on the remote or the screen. Once water temp hits 50 degrees the fans come on to last set temperature and begins to warm the cabin.

Great service from the chap from the forum who also fixed my emergency telephone which has been saying call dealer for a month. Only a milder -5 this week but looking forward to trying it out in the morning tomorrow.

Hi,
I’ve just read your post about flashing the water heater and the help you received from the guy in Germany — very interesting solution

I’d really like to have the same done on my van.
If it’s possible, could you please share the contact details of the person from Germany you mentioned?

Thanks a lot in advance, I’d really appreciate it.
Best regards,
Denis

I'm interesed too but basically a bit worried about the electrical complexity and screwing it up...

2023 204 4motion beach with the two heaters fitted.

It’s very straight forward, and much kinder on the engine in winter. The water heater warms the cabin better than the air heater as well in the front as hot air comes from the vents. As long as you have a stable internet connection for the remote connection, nothing to worry about at all.

Hi Denis where in Poland are you? I am in Wrocław.

Hi, i am in Warsaw. Did you write to the guy from Germany? Maybe you already have the firmware file?
I wrote to him, he doesn’t send out the firmware file but he flashes remotely. If you look at the German site linked and message him there he will get in touch.

I can’t message you here as you are not VIP so that’s the only way to recommend.

One point to add on this subject. I was worried about the temperature on the climate control affecting the heat but it makes no difference to the output temp when using heat immediately. Van was set to 18 but after 20 mins at -6 it was still blowing hot air out and not just heating to the dial temp.

Can’t PM you. I think you may need to be a VIP?
Anyway, his contact info is in the link above.

Nothing at all to worry about.
All he’s doing essentially is swapping one bit of VW software for another.
He’s extremely professional. All that’s required is to plug your laptop into the van via the dongle and follow a few prompts via text. It takes about 20 mins.
Many satisfied customers if you read the thread linked above.

Hi, tried to message you but dont seem to be able to. We’d like to do this if you still have the dongle.

@sidepod thanks for digging into this. I've joined the TX board and am awaiting Admin verification. Then I'll contact Wetzler / Fite to get this sorted.

This current auto water heater setting on my Beach probably accounts for a start up 28 - 32l / 100km value. If I can control the water heater then all for the better. It doesn't need it every day.

@Daveb999 I'll let you know how it goes. Will be a good addition for Scotland.
