How have used prices changed in the last few years?

Popped into the local CamperKing converter dealer nearby yesterday. I just needed something from the shop. Struck by the sheer number of new vans sat in the car park. Had to be fifty at least.
Looked decidedly like a buyers market to me.
The middle of August is not the optimum time to sell a motorhome/Campervan. Some planning is needed for any holiday and although the weather can still be nice in France and Spain in September/October the ferries are fairly well booked till past those dates.

You can't be too far from me sidepod.

Perhaps, the market has finally reached saturation point?
15 years ago, i could've reeled off the main converters. These days, i swear i encounter a new specialist van converter every week or so...

I feel quite smug knowing my van is worth bugger all. To the right person on the day, maybe high £20Ks. There are many similar spec/condition on-line for around Euro £30k.
LHD drive in the UK means there are about 3 buyers savvy enough to take a punt. I couldn't care less.

Thankfully it's not for sale and priceless to me.:cheers

I'll take it then :)

My T5 is LHD too. It's always nice to know that the rest of Europe might be buyers if the UK market / economy falls apart.

Ive been monitoring Autotrader for the last couple of months, there have consistently been about 100 Californias for sale, what has surprised me is that there is a turnover of probably 5 vans per day, with a lot of the high priced ie £80k plus van selling in hours of being listed.

One VW centre has a couple of pre registered unused 4 motion vans listed at nearly £10k above the list price at the time they were ordered.

Going via DtD I can have the same spec van for next summer for £20k less, that is just madness, but the dealer has said there are plenty of people out there prepared to pay.

The vans that are sticking appear to be the private sellers or non VW garages trying to charge the same sort of figure.

I'm considering a T6 Beach. Recently they seem to be knocking around the £40k, maybe selling for a touch under. Those for sale seem to have been relatively low spec ones (not many have heater, DSG, only manual ac etc).

T5 Beach seem to start at £30k, again for lowish spec. Although most seem to be £35k+ at the moment.

Pre all this covid malarky what could you buy a used T6 beach for (or even a T5 beach)

Obviously its been a couple of years so rough prices appreciated.

I'm trying to figure out if there is likely to be some big price correction in the next year or so?

Input appreciated.
I remember Motorpoint selling blue 19 plate T6 Beaches (DSG but no heater) Christmas time just before covid for around 37k. Probably worth at least another 10-15k on that now

As always something is worth what someone will pay for it and market trends are trends they’re constantly moving. So perhaps the question is what price is freedom, because that’s what a Cali offers, the opportunity to go somewhere whenever the mood takes you, and that for me is priceless.

Just a comment as regards timing of sale. Having sold my old Westfalia type two many years ago I then had a Brazilian type two from 2007 and then tried to sell it but didn’t advertise until June last year. No sale. When I advertised in February this year I had many offers.

My guess is the same if you’re ever planning selling a California is to sell in the spring maybe even advertise late winter because as mentioned here people need to plan, ferries need to be booked and exciting plans need to be made for new owners well before the summer.

I must say as a very happy owner of a coast I cannot understand why this option has been withdrawn from the British market. For me there’s nothing in the ocean that I would be prepared to pay the extra for and I can’t be alone in that. Actually there was one option which was I would’ve liked a 4x4 version of the coast but each to their own. I must say I’m very lucky to have a car which in my 60s I can look at and think I really don’t want to sell this ever! Although of course events may happen

At the end of 2019, we bought a T6 California Ocean BMT 4Motion DSG 110Kw year 2018 for 55 kEUR and also got 4 winter tires on the rims, a bunch of tools and accessories (various nets and mosquito nets, anti-rodent system on the engine, tow bar, bike carrier. ..). I think that the selling price today is slightly below 70 kEUR. Totally crazy and incomprehensible. I hope that the prices will go down and that people will be able to afford all this for less money.
Anyway, this purchase was an investment in us, it is for our joy and enjoyment.

I think there are now so many vans for sale, if you find one you like then it's time to go and haggle. I reckon it's more a buyers market now

I can only go by recent experiences. Living in Ireland I ordered a new California Beach September 2021, arrived July 2022, stunning in Induim Grey and far cheaper than ordering from U.K. maybe that’s Brexit?
I sold my 2006 T5 Leisuredrive Campervan for the same price i paid in 2012 ! So I believe second hand prices have held up positively. Irish John
