Hi All
I have a 2018 T6. My Radio/Sat Nav/CD player has played up (3 Times to be exact) in that there is no response on the Touch Screen, unable to change channels, Set Sat Nav and getting screen flicker. On each of the 3 previous tantrums, I have gone back after 24hrs, switched on and the Infotainment system has behaved itself. yesterday, travelling up the M1 after a lovely weekend in Henley on Thames, there was a repeat performance from the Infotainment. I have a 2 year service/warranty plan so I have booked in to VW dealer who warned me that there will be a charge of £180 should their diagnostics not find fault. Well, I have gone back to my T6 today and the system is behaving.

My question, Does the VW T6 record faults with the infotainment system that will be identified by a diagnostic report even after I have restsarted the system and it works OK the next day?

No it doesn't...the touchscreen is a known fault and if it is covered by your warranty get it changed, the unit is expensive, although a replacement touchscreen is £15 on ebay. VW wont repair the unit they will replace it.

Don't bother getting the voice control module fitted when/if the touchscreen dies because it is worse than useless......

Mine played up occasionally, Breeze at Poole tested it amongst some other things I asked them to check before the extended warranty ran out. They replaced it under warranty. The new unit is much better sound quality as well :)

Thanks, my worry is that it does not play up when they test it. This is why I wondered if a fault is recorded. Apparently not but there has been lots of failures. you only have to research on this forum to see the many issues with these units.
I will find out 19th May

I would challenge the fee for diagnostics. All they have to do, is touch the screen.

Thank You. Did not see that thread on my research.

.
Before taking in for diagnostics
1) Check if the £180 charged is refunded if the unit is proven faulty
2) Assuming you have the 2 year all in plan it will be covered if proven not to be functioning
I had the unit replaced under this on my previous T6 Ocean at 5 years 4 months old.
Fortunately I had a fault that could be demonstrated/video recorded (certain keys not working on keyboard and dead area of screen to commands.)
Try and run through the full range of functions as you may find a repeatable fault that can be demonstrated/videoed.
This is useful.
At my repair I was charge £50 for a software update (no diagnostic charge) told it was working perfectly.
Showed the service manager the recorded fault and then demonstrated same faults still existed after software update.

Red faced apology, new unit ordered under all in plan then and there (which has to be authorised by VW, so not a goodwill gesture) and £50 software update refunded.

Good luck

Check if the £180 charged is refunded if the unit is proven faulty
The Diagnosis fee is not deductible or refundable!

I recently challenged a dealer regarding a fault that was previously fixed under extended factory warranty , subsequently had failed again under "All in policy ", the dealer wanted to charge £180 "diagnostics ".
They told me the £180 would be refunded if VW agreed it was warranty work, if not the Charge would stand and not be deducted from any work they carried out I refused, stating that the original fault had reoccurred within two years and it was originally fix under warranty, so why would the new fault not be covered as previously?
There was much too and growing, eventually they backed down begrudgingly, part was replaced under warranty.

IMO . It is a license to print Money. I would agree if they would deduct the Diagnostic fee from any subsequent work they carried out, but they won't

Thats what I thought. I will challenge them

VW dealer do not diagnose Infotainment systems they use third party approved suppliers. It is disingenuous of the dealer to suggest they carry out the diagnostic.
I suspect you will have no luck with removing the diagnostic fee.

Have a chat with Hamid at SatNav systems Surbiton.
@Hamid - Satnav Systems

They are an approved supplier to VW & Audi , they carry out lots of work for VW dealers.
They are very knowledgeable and approachable, they and are aware of certain issues with certain specific units particularly Media units manufactured up to 2018,
Hamid may be able to check your serial number and advise if your unit falls into the known issue categories, similarly they will be able to diagnose and fix the issue. (They offer a postal service if you cannot visit their facility).

Best of luck.

There are a lot of people that believe that this issue is made worse when the car is cold (across other VAG cars not just Cali) , this includes having the aircon running in hot weather as the ducts run next to the unit. It might be worth running the car at max aircon for a period and seeing if you can replicate the issue and then if it does, then take a video of the failure including evidence in the video of the date. Other note is that we had a vertical strip of the screen fail and it only exposed itself if the button we wanted to use was in that area. So I would also try multiple screens and try to test all the areas, for us the other areas worked perfectly which is why I wasn’t convinced we had an issue.

Thank you everyone. I will report back when concluded

Just an update

I called VW Warranty direct (03330433781) they tell me the procedure is to book into VW Dealership and that if the fault is not evident at time of inspection then a video of any defect will do.

Fortunately for me, I have just been out and my infotainment is not working, ive taken a video which I will supply to the dealership
