Is it 6 years max for roof corrosion repair?

VW at Tonbridge indicated that I could struggle with warranty because my 6 years are up by aprox16 month. Anyone else attempted to twist VW arm when out of warranty? Dealers are going to speak to VW on my behalf but I don't hold out much hope!

We met a strict deadline at 6 years. Ours showed first signs in 7th year.
