Yes, the carrier attaches to the tow bar and is secured. The box then attaches to the carrier and the electrics. Once you get use to it you can install it on your own. All parts lock to the vehicle and when attached it can be dropped so you can access the boot.

Yes, it locks onto a 50mm tow ball. The lever locks the frame onto the ball, while the crank locks it horizontal front to back. The red knob is a key lock to prevent removal.

Unlock the red knob and screw it back, loosen the crank and lift the lever. The whole frame will then lift off the hitch.

In my experience, the only tricky bit is getting the frame horizontal left to right.
