T6.1 window washer just dribbling. Under warranty in dealership expecting easy fix. No such luck, eventually after checking the obvious with no success the problem was discovered. Engine battery removed showing wiring been nibbled . Volkswagen state that if more than 20mm is damaged then a complete new wiring loom is to be fitted. Fortunately, dealership can replace part wiring but need to order the parts. Obviously not covered under warranty, cost inc labour and parts £ 380. Cali parked in cart lodge along side BMW which has never been chewed. Can it be true VOLKSWAGEN are using some environmental tasty material covering electric cables. Never had this problem with our other two cars over years parked in same place. Going to try mothballs and peppermint oil spray. Already got pair of sonic repellents, do they work ?

Just a thought:

Jeeeez I'm seeing a few of these threads lately (old and new) and seems its a bit of a problem....
I've never personally encountered this *touches wood* but my f=daughter had her Freelander written of by mice damage!!

Few posts to read here , here , and here !
Think you got off lightly with a £380 bill and helpful dealer.

Just a thought:

Not sure about them not liking the smell of dogs, my f=daughters freelander was shredded by the little sods and she has a dog, a wet dog sometimes, in there every day.

Not only VW I’ve got a 19 plate ford courier van and the mice had a chew on that
never had it with any other vehicle and parked on same driveway for the last 30years.

I’ve seen a few post about vermin damage recently, and it’s got me thinking

When you buy something it has to be fit for purpose, is the California really fit for purpose as a campervan if it has components that attract something to eat it?

Campervans are supposed to be able to stay outside without being eaten!

If manufacturers make so many millions of vehicles and they don’t get touched this seems to be a manufacturer defect.

Anyone know a good legal person?

I had the same issue with rodent damage in 3 areas. This was following a previous damage 6 months before that was repaired. I too have had multiple BMW cars even now, and never had any damage. After months of wrangling. VW HQ conceded to replace the damaged wiring and paid for the fitting of a rodent deterrent. The Garage admitted that the wiring is wrapped in soy based tape for eco reasons. Hope this helps.

I have had no success with sonic devices, and used traps but were are hit n miss. What i had found to work, is to place a bait away from your Cali but accessible to the rodents. On a plate pile up a mix of baking soda and chocolate powder, 2:1 ratio. After which the rodents should consume. Soon they will not be able to pass gas and BOF, no more problem. It’s gross I know, but if you are plagued by rodents it is an effective way to deal with them. I had rats and mice running everywhere in daylight hours and you also need to be protected from weils disease, to unfortunately as they breed so quickly without intervention the problem does not go away.

After looking at recommendations for anti mouse sprays, peppermint oil, moth balls, etc, etc. I would have thought anything smelling awful like fly spray, WD40, disinfectant, sprayed over wiring would be just as effective ?
