New canvas fitting. I currently own a California Westfalia 1996 L hand drive.

The canvas needs replacing after 27 years, I’ve been told it’s the original canvas from manufacturer. It’s has several repairs and often causes leaks in other areas of the van.

What I am struggling with, is finding someone who can fit a new canvas in the area I live! Greater Manchester.

Could someone please recommend someone who knows what they are doing.

I’ve had a quote off a guy who does conversion. He has quoted £1000 to fit and do some repairs but I have to supply/source the canvas! (I’ve found the canvas for £379) does the £1000 quote sound reasonable if I’m supplying the canvas.

He also advised that the canvas will not be as tight as it is now! Is this right?

Does anyone know any Westfalia specialists?

I’ve done a few and I can assure you they end up as tight as a drum.

New units are around Euro 350 so at a £1k fitting price your man either doesn’t want the job or he thinks you’re daft.

There are threads on here showing how to do it yourself.
It’s not difficult and you don’t need any specific tools just patience and care.
