Hi Everyone.

Just wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Daniel 30 years old. British but living in South Germany working for a software company.

I just bought my dream car :D and i couldn't be happier. My Girlfriend and Doggy have a busy winter planning to head all over Austria France and Switzerland hitting the slopes and working from home and in our little new on wheels home.

I do want to ask a few things but i dont know if this is the right place to ask.

Just simple things like.

Fold out mattress which is good for space.
Top Cover for the winter days
A tent which goes on our awning
What plates and pans do you use for the bus which is the best

And so on!!!

Anyway with that thanks for letting my introduce myself and speak to you soon

Good afternoon and welcome ...:D

Yes, lots of questions, and I'm afraid even more answers!

Firstly have a surf around our specialist sections in the forum and you will find lots of discussions on roof toppers, mattress toppers etc.

Mattress is entirely down to individual comfort and also whether upstairs or downstairs. I mostly sleep downstairs, have a one inc form topper on top of the seats and on top of that a feather topper from MnS. It does me but hey, some people it does not. Upstairs I find the VW supplied mattress quite adequate.

I don't use a roof tamper and I camp all year round but if you are sleeping mostly upstairs then you may want one for comfort and it does add a lot of insulation. Again I will let others chime in with their personal favourites.

I use corelle plates for when I am intending to be on a campsite where washing up facilities are available, disposable bio-degradable when not, for example wild camping and conserving water. I use a tool roll set for cutlery and a tool roll to store other bits such as large spoons, bottle Opener, scissors, can opener etc. That liberates the cutlery drawer which I then use to store my plates in, but then I am completely mad so don't copy :shocked

Anyway, welcome again, pull up a chair and...join in!

Welcome, great colour combo on your Cali. Loads of info on here as Granny Jen said. My recommendation for a roof topper would be the one made by Comfortz and for sale in the forum shop. Well made, keeps upstairs warmer and drier whilst still allowing ventilation. This will also keep the snow out of your roof mechanism etc. Enjoy. :thumb

Van looks great. Love those steel wheels

Thanks for the warm welcome and thanks for the advice i will take a look round the forum. The steelies are the winter wheels but i thought it would be a fun thing. Somewhat of retro nostalgia look.

The Paper plates is a great idea for no washing up!!! Im going to grab them today just as a temp fix until we look around properly as we go away this weekend.

And yea snow is going to be the big one. I wanted a tent just because sometimes there might be 4 of us in there as i go boarding every weekend.

Welcome Daniel

Great plans ahead!

Mattres: We use one from Calicap.de (for downstairs and tend to buy also one for upstairs). Pricy but good quality! Alternative is the forum shop or fanello.
Top Cover: Look at the forumshop or again calicap.de
Pans: Some from Sea to Summit but actually we are changing to some normal pans. Same with plates.
Tent: Uh, we were at the point before summer to buy one from Outwell Milestone Air. We didn‘t but for more wintercamping or staying on one site they look great! Or get a cheap one from Decathlon to test it. Alternative buy some Thule side panels or again forum shop or calicap.de

Look forwar to see some pictures of your winter adventures!

Congratulations and welcome! :welcome

Thanks again for all your tips! Ill probably grab that topper off Calicap.de also just reread what I initially wrote.. Spelling and Grammer all over the place... Guess I was just excited writing and meeting people with the same car/bus/ camper however you like to describe your car :p

https://gybe-design.com/lifestyle i was looking at these though which look cool but also easy and compact and great for the winter.

I like his watch.

A tent which goes on our awning
We spent a year travelling around Europe with our dog and two pre-school boys. We used a Vango Kela III which was superb. We now use a Thule G3 Residence which is made up of three awning panels and two support bars. The panels all lock together making a nice (almost) airtight room.

We still have our driveaway awning, but if I knew then what I know now I would buy a simple tent room.

It can be used as a living room, dining room, storage, dressing room, playroom or bathroom. No faff to drive away from or to drive up to. The wind out awning can be extended right up to it to provide cover in the rain. It is over 6 Kg lighter than its driveaway cousin and 22% smaller pack size.
