Really confused about this, we have another car which has over 9 years no claims, when phoning around for Cali insurance I was told varying things about not being able to use this on the Cali and the other car.

Our quote went up from £400 to £700 without the no claims on the Cali (The Caravan Club).

I'm sure we're not the only ones with another car, so how does no claims work for everyone?

Yes this is right, the NCB can only be applied to a single vehicle.

Try Comfort insurance they don't have use NCB just decent pricing. £330 for my SE for my wife & I with a proper motorhome policy

Until year before last, we lived overseas for 7 years and my NCB had lapsed! Comfort to the rescue!

Well with my past insurers, each vehicle insured gained its own NCD. So my Land Rover was replaced by the California which took on the accrued NCD of the Land Rover.
So if I understand you correctly, you have 1 car, and have now bought the California. So now you have 2 vehicles, 1 has 9 yrs NCD and the California has 0 yrs NCD.

Thank you, but comfort don't like the fact I keep the Cali in a secure underground private car park with barrier entry & CCTV at the bottom of our road. They will only insure us if we promise to keep it on the street :headbang

Makes sense, guess I thought it was the driver who had the no claims, not the vehicle.

We were in the same situation when we bought our motorhome a few years back NFU at that time mirrored the no claims that I had on on a car policy, we are still with them with the cali but will be changing once this years insurance runs out as they are quite expensive.

Do a search for companies that will mirror your no claims, if you find someone and they won't cover the cali get them to cover your car and use your existing company to cover the cali.

If you don't need business use some of the motorhome specialists Ie comfort will provide cover without no claims - you don't accrue any either.

I have spent years with up to 4 cars at once some a bit specialist - caterhams 911s etc & always found it easiest to insure the difficult vehicle with whichever policy has the best no claims record & then let the everyday insurers cover the easy cars.

Has your partner any ncd so you could insure one of the vehicles each with each other as named drivers?

She did when we had two cars, but we consolidated, didn't think about the no claims at all!
