Normandy D-Day Landings

There’s so much to see and do, he’ll love it. Don’t miss the D-Day Experience at Dead Man’s Corner near Caretan. They have a museum, 3D Imax cinema, and flight simulator. Sainte-Mere-Eglise and the American Cemetery near Omaha Beach also in the same area. (Shameless plug - Aces High in Sainte-Mere-Eglise is the business my wife works for. Good range of artworks and souvenirs)
Nearer to Gold Beach is Pegasus Bridge - also not to be missed. Good museum and the famous Cafe Gondre the first building to be liberated on D-Day.
Have fun.
Don’t forget to include the German cemetary in La Cambe nearby. It’s about a 20 minute drive from st-Mere-Eglise.
Bajeux is a nice market town to visit, especially the tapestry. The camp site, municipal, there is good to.

That’s right, forgot about that. You can buy combination tickets for the different museums too. Everything is in walking distance but also good to cycle. The whole area is suitable for cycling with cycling paths and on the pavement if I remember right.

nerd fact: Bajeux has the first, or one the first, circular roads around a town. Reason for that was that the city was a hub for transporting trucks, tanks and people during the D-day invasion for the Americans. So instead of going through the town, what didn’t fit they went around it. It is still fairly quiet in town nowadays

Forgot to say the the main market in Bayeux is on a Saturday. Fabulous choice of fresh produce.

I am just back from an almost 2 week vacation to Bretagne.
After being outrained, we went to Normandy. When the rain didn't stop, we just went back home 2 dats early.
On the way back to Belgium, we crossed a load of car transportation trucks fully loaded with old army jeeps. And a few Dutch driving their old army trucks to Normandy.

Just a little tip: Don't go to the Camping Les 3 Rivières in Creully. The owner is drunk 24/7 and the camping is put full of Mobil Homes around the sanitary building. We just got put on a sort of parking lot on the outside of the camping, with quite a walk to the sanitary building.

We were there about a month ago. Very moving at the Memorial with all the silhouettes. They are there until August when they will return to the UK and be spread around the country at National Trust sites. Video here of the remains of the Mulberry B harbour. Could we do this today??

How do you post a video? Have a video of HMS Belfast firing its guns a few weeks ago.

Yes, we visited the German cemetery. Sobering!

(Went to Bayeux again, not for the tapestry this time, but for a children’s clothes shop my wife loves. Grandchildren now look very chic :) )
