Very good. The likelihood of finding a mechanic who would investigate to that depth nowadays is virtually impossible and VW would just go from A - Fault to B - Replace.

What is the effect of a TSB? Is it issued to all VAG dealers ? Are they obliged to do anything? How would an owner find out at which production number the offending oil was discontinued?
Presumably it's not a common fault and it's a case of making a note in case it ever happened to you.

VW would just go from A - Fault to B - Replace.

Which in fact was the advice finally given in the video. I think that sadly these days if something like this happened, the cost of checking out all of the internal components and only replacing the affected part would outweigh the cost of fitting a reconditioned unit.
Unfortunately, this seems to be true for nearly everything nowadays.

Too right. We need the right to repair legislation to grow some teeth.

Imagine the number of cars scrapped because of something like this and deemed beyond economical repair...
