Local specialist dorset for dsg gearbox

Reply from vw
Thank you for contacting Volkswagen Commerical Van UK with regards to your enquiry about Dsg 7 gearbox oil service.

I have contact our Technical Team and I was advised that for the DSG 7 gearbox service is done every 40 000 miles.
I'll stick with my breeze service centre then.

Got van back from breeze aux belt tensioner replaced under warranty, I cannot hear any sound from gearbox so will wait until service in July to see if it gets worst,
Is the oil changed in a clutch change I wonder?
And what is the general cost of an oil gearbox service?
Be wary breeze Poole has a new valet person, lost one of my rubber mats and van looked like it had been cleaned by a blind monkey.
(No disrespect to blind people or monkeys intended)
“Thanks Steve for sorting”

So to summarise - there’s a fault with your gearbox that has no effect when driving & you can’t hear anything?

The only person who thinks there is something wrong is the garage who want £1800 to fix something you didn’t know was wrong.
When the garage realises the van is under warranty and any claim will need to be justified to VW, the fault is ok & doesn’t need repairing yet.

Is that correct?

Edited to add please see further down this chain, there really was a fault & Breeze did fix it under warranty.

Good Morning Mr Bluston

I just wanted to follow up on your post to say when I saw it this week I passed it onto Paul our Aftersales Manager who I believe has been in contact to introduce himself and arrange to get your California in whilst you are on holiday.

Thanks again for raising this and hopefully we will get this potential flywheel issue sorted for you.

Kind Regards

This thread has me worried. I have an automatic/tiptronic in my 2007 Cali. Is this the same as DSG?
I had no idea it might need servicing separate from the usual services and it's done about 88,000 miles so maybe I should be thinking about it.

didn't think they did a trip tonic always been dsg, maybe just terminology, also depends on 6 or 7 speed version if in doubt email vw technical as lots of disinformation about.

It was described as tiptronic when I bought the used van from a reputable motorhome dealer. The gear selector can be moved to the right and then select the gear you want. I've never used that as I've never found an occasion when it might be useful!

I think the 2007 Cali had a torque converter transmission. Tiptronic was just a fancy name for this kind of automatic and used by Porsche too.

The Tiptronic gearbox was fitted to the T5, up until the introduction of the face-lift T5.1 when it changed to the DSG.
So pre 2010 Tiptronic.
Apparently, depending on the make, some can have an oil change others are sealed for life.

Thanks WG. So I need to contact VW to find out - or would a dealer be able to check if I took the V5c in? We have Breeze in Poole who have a good rep.

They should be able to tell you, using the Reg Number or VIN, both on your V5c.

If, for any reason, they don’t have that information then someone needs to put the van up on a ramp and examine the gearbox visually. There should be a serial number or some identification on the outside.

Thank you for yours and Paul’s help he did pull out all the stops and flywheel was replaced under the all in warrantee, it was a surreal difference in smoothness of drive which you don’t notice as a gradual deterioration. Affirmation of quality of service centre and there staff.

Thank you for the follow up comment Nigel, I have passed your feedback onto Paul as well. I'm pleased we were able to resolve the flywheel issue and even better, claim it under your Volkswagen All-in Warranty. We look forward to welcoming you back to Breeze Van Centre in Poole in the future.

Kind Regards
Michael

In that case Michael @Michael Breeze it appears I owe you an apology for my post #31
It appears your mechanic did find a fault that the driver was unaware of & you did carry out the necessary repair under warranty.

That is kind of you to re-comment and appreciated, not the usual on some of the Forums I follow. Although we try with all our customers we make an additional effort with our California customers, knowing that is far more than just a kitted out van. We are lucky that a number of our Technicians and Sales Teams own the product themselves so they understand the importance.

Kind Regards
Michael
