Where have you wild camped on Mainland Orkney? Recommendations please. Thank you.

We camped near St Margarets Hope

58.825396, -2.999329

Near beach and public toilets (with heated waiting room)

------------

and also parking near the dunes (and also public toilets)

here: 58.915677, -2.783562

both lovely spots & we were the only people there

---------------

ps paste the co-ordinates into google maps and you'll get the exact spot

The Council camp site at Birsey is worth staying at and not too expensive. Make sure you also visit Hoy. There are no campsites and wild camping is tolerated. Check out the car park with public toilets at Rackwick. I am sure you will enjoy Orkney but having got that far north why not explore Shetland. It takes adventure to the next level and there is much more scope for camping on remote beaches and community run harbour sites.

That was a question we asked too. To ourselves though, as we were alone.

Thanks Kenm. We are on Shetland for a while, it's as we return to Orkney (23:00) from Shetland on the late ferry that we have no site to stay at, hence wishing to know where there are any good wild sites to consider.

We had that problem however we ended up changing our ferry booking and stayed on board the ferry to Aberdeen. I am sure you will be able to find somewhere suitable in Kirkwall or head down the A964 towards Orphir Round Kirk.
