Our first trip underway

In 1970 it was hopefully one day you will arrive at your destination. If you were traveling on the road up to Alice you had to inform the police you were traveling in that direction just in case you didn’t arrive. Protection was a 30/30 Winchester. Most travellers carried a rifle then (No license required in most states only for side arms..Campsites were when you stopped by the side of the road. A week in a motel in Alice to get the engine fixed was $30. A GALLON of petrol was as far as I can remember was 45 cents. We carried a spare 20 gallons of fuel as filling stations were every couple of hundred miles and didn’t always have fuel. How things have changed.
Saying all this I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
