Parking lights always on

Just wanted to know if there is a way of stopping the headlamp side lights from always being on when the key is in the ignition.
I have stayed out in the van a few times now and if I want to listen to the stereo I have to put the key in the ignition to do so and thus putting on the front lights, apart from stopping the battery being drained it will also stop people coming over to tell me I left the lights on

Ah . So it does. Trying to look for a major solution and overlooked the simplest.
