Parking Restrictions - Motor Caravan

I just noticed that someone on our local Exmouth community got a parking ticket for parking their T5.

Apparently Devon County Council use the V5 definition of "Motor Caravan" to apply the rules.

There are a bunch of new signs stating "No Motor Caravans at any time".

Now clearly there was an issue with folks parking huge motorhomes hanging over the road / pavement / two spaces but this seems a bit of a sledge hammer to crack a nut.

Given many use their Cali as a daily drive or as a day van this is a bit of a bummer.

It is cropping up in many areas now. I have found Dorset becoming an issue as well.

I often go kayaking from Keyhaven but the road has for the last few years been getting more and more campers and motorhomes camping there for weeks (there are no facilities there).This is a photo taken at 06:30

It’s peed off the locals so much that it was announced yesterday that pay and display and no overnight parking will be introduced in August. I was hoping it would just be a ban on overnight parking.

Motorhomes up to 6m in dedicated bays only and vans up to 4.8m.

You have to use the Sharan stealth conversion when visiting the Dorset coast

IMO, found this recently in Devon, Car can pay to park for 24hrs or free after 8pm (in car parks & roadside). Camper / M/H only allowed to stay up to 10pm no return before 10am ! (sometimes earlier) !
This even applied in an out of town carpark , with coach parking facilities, needless to say it was empty after about 6pm

I wonder who checks at 10pm onwards !

I simply took my money elsewhere.

When will the U.K. get with the program? Europe actively invite tourist in Vans etc, in the U.K. we actively discourage All.

I wonder why seaside towns are in decline generally in the U.K.

My guess is that they had problems like in the Keyhaven post above, hence the over-zealous restrictions. Like you, I take my money elsewhere. I avoid the Dorset coast and looks like I may need to add Devon to the list

I’m pretty sure parking attendants won’t be doing V5 checks. I reckon if a vehicle looks like a camper, they will give it a ticket.
I wonder how they would treat something like a standard Caravelle?

I think they will, @Kayleigh - though I don’t know this - because the little handhelds the attendants all use will automatically look up the number plates postal address etc. and probably additionally now the class of motor vehicle.

I guess only feedback will tell however.

Sone have cars fitted with camera linked to ANPR , they just drive around , the rest is automated
