thinking on colours- my wife and I are thinking of ordering the Ocean in black. Yes I know it shows up the dirt but the bottom line is black is a cool colour. Is there any other reason why black is not so popular or is it purely based on the idea that it's harder to keep clean?

Cheers

P.S Blackberry and grey are also on the list but black is on top at the moment

Yes, It is more dificult to keep clean.
Ours was an ex demo so the colour wasn't our choice. However whilst we would never have chosen black, we now love it and if it gets dirty, well so what.

Perfect colour! same as mine, easy to keep clean - a good wax once a year & then get your butler to give it a quick wash every morning.

I had chosen a black one, and apart from showing dirt happy with it. Dark colours can get quite hot in the sun!

Had a pearlescent black SE from 2007-11. Never compared to a hearse but occasionally mistaken for an enforcement vehicle from the Immigration Service. Made picking up a takeaway interesting!

We chose black to, it shows the dirt, but after a wash, i find it verry posh.

A black Beach would make a better hearse. There wouldn't a great demand for the kitchen facilities from the customers. Privacy glass and climatronic aircon might be useful though and don't bother with the cup holder.

Borris, sidepod, be careful or we'll have another Brexit thread here. And GJ wouldn't like that.

Black is cool as you can see from our thingy to the left, yes it shows the dirt but the great thing about that is that it often looks like it's been on an adventure.

Also, we don't find it hot. I think the windows do more to make the van hot than the bodywork, so make sure if you go for black you get a darker aftermarket tint put on.

As for Beach owners driving hearses, there's plenty of threads of the Brexit variety about SE/Ocean owners never using their kitchens (lugging around an extra ton of stuff they never use) and we'd say that they are the ones close to driving a hearse by putting up with a downstairs bed that has the proportions of a coffin.:talktothehand :)

Sorry couldn't resist that! :)

You might be right about the Brexit thing although in this case I suppose it would be Blackxit, (leaving this mortal coil in a black Cali).

Actually you have described Mrs B and I perfectly. We always seem to cart a tonne of stuff around that could easily be thrown overboard and we have never used the sink or bothered to fill up the water tank either. However, as I am now 63 and have a black Cali it has occurred to me that it may come in useful if I pop my cloggs. As we also own a Beach we are well set up just in case Mrs B and I shuffle off at the same time. How's that for forward planning?

That's Blackxit humour for you! :thumb

Classic, I had no idea this colour had so many uses, I think they're missing a trick here. 'Pearl black a colour for the living and the dead' perhaps the ultimate send off would being launched off the roof electronically or manually for Beach owners.

Very close to putting my order in BTW

The elephant in the room here is HEAT. There will be lots of owners of dark vans that say they are no hotter in the sun than silver or white, but that defies science. I'm not saying don't buy a dark van, but a thread asking about the downside of black can't pass without reference to heat.

The heat thing is a load of rubbish, don't let it put you buying a cali in a colour you like.
Ours is dark blue and it gets no hotter inside than any of the many white vans I've had for work over the years.

What a crazy statement, black absorbs heat and white reflects it, that is simple science! If it was not true then why does everyone in hot countries have white washed houses !

I would not own another black car for various reasons, that's just my that's my opinion.

Have had two in black so far, by far the coolest colour but does take a bit of talc to keep it looking its best.

Learned after the last one and bought some supagard sponges off eBay for buttons and had a local detailer apply it for the latest one, looks amazing so far hopefully it makes it easier to wash and reduces any paint swirls that happen over time

Had a black car once, it was the worst for showing scratches.

As predicted!
To be clear, the problem is when you are parked up and not running the air con. Science says the air-con would just run harder. The stationary thing is not too much of a problem in a normal vehicle for normal use, but not great in a camper if you are trying to lie in past 8am when pitched in the sun.

The upside is everyone (well me) will think you are a chauffeur for "The Apprentice".

I'm well aware of the science thanks, what I'm saying, having had both dark and light coloured vans, is that there is no discernible difference in the real world so just get the colour you like best.

If you want to get scientific - Black is better heat emitter than white so in theory once the sun goes down a black van should cool down quicker than a white one.

I think the only way to solve this is to do scientific tests at the next cali meet.

I live in Northumberland and need all the heat I can get. We seem to have strayed off the path a bit here by getting all scientific on heat absorption. Thanks everyone for attaching pics of your Cali's, it has confirmed to me that they DO look cool. I can live with people bowing their heads when I drive past and I don't mind if it gets a bit warm. Result and decision made.

Black is definitely the coolest colour - which is why my Cali is known as Sexy Rexy!
