Hey fellow campers,

This summer my wife and I have the opportunity to visit UK for two weeks in our California campervan. We will also join the concert with Oasis at Heaton Park, Manchester. Any recommendations for nice camp sites near the venue and ideas for means of transportation to and from the concert?

Other nice suggestions for first time campers in the UK are very appriciated.

Thank you in advance from Denmark

I briefly looked into campervan options for Oasis Heaton Park, prior to me getting zero tickets!

My advice would be to find a site north of Heaton Park (which is already north of Manchester). This way you should be able to take the Metrolink (tram) towards Bury or a bus north.

After the concert, most people will be overloading the transport south to Manchester or just making the 90 minute walk south, feeling supersonic. Many people may get on the tram heading north, for one stop, simply to find space on the southbound trams.

Sadly that is as far as I got, in my research. The concert will almost certainly finish on time, due to noise restrictions. This should help you with planning your journey and possibly booking a taxi for the final leg to the campsite.

It might be worth exploring further northwards before or after the concert, to get in touch with nature. There is some place called ‘The Lake District’ - worth a visit, although I reckon it has more mountains than lakes.

Finally, bear in mind that if the concert is anything like Knebworth ‘96 then it is an all afternoon/evening festival. Arrive early to get a good ‘zone’ wristband and bring picnic blanket etc.

Good luck!
