Please ditch the negativity

I'm thinking about leaving the Club because I find the 'click an icon to upset someone' option very negative and unnecessary. If people don't agree, they should say so and give their reasons. It's a type of troll behaviour when people can hide behind an icon, but it's the fault of the Club in coming up with these all-too-easy-to-click options.

Please get rid of them!

what Icon do you mean?

Are you thinking of the "like" button where someone can also say "stupid" ( I have three of those) ... "Dumb" (one of those), "bad spelling" (five of those and I am a writer and author!)......

Yes. Sad that someone will use those and not say why, but... does it really matter?

I'm with bilberry on this. It's okay on BBC sport etc. but not so welcome on here where we all support the same team - VW California whatever the variant.

Better to explain why you disagree and add to the debate, rather than being lazy and clicking an icon. I don't even know what they all mean - spanner, rainbow, clock? Is there a set of FAQs somewhere?

I expect someone will click the Luddite icon for me now.:headbang

Personal i have never used that liking thing , the few ratings that i have given is becose i accidently tapt an icon and so give a rating.....
One can't realy "hide" themself after given a rating becouse as reciver you can always see who has given ratings to you and witchones....
Just reminding that your on a public forum and there always will be people having opposite thoughts then the otherone....

Just checked and I appear to have accidently given random ratings to a few posts, all now "undone". The perils of a small touchscreen on my iPad and chunky digits. I wonder how many other icon/ratings have been accidently sent? Maybe a "confirm or post" button would help .

I have also accidently given ratings whilst using I pad and have undone them at a later date. I hate the thought that I might accidently upset someone on such a friendly forum.

Those icons are based on a unluky place if using a touchtscreen , bettter was that they be more left on screen to prevent accidentally taps....

Don't worry about it, ignore them, sticks and stones etc.

How do know what "score" you have?
Is this an advantage of being IT inept?
How do I find out if I have sent any?

I will look into seeing what we can do about it, it looks like some people like to make use of it as its has been used several thousand times since changing over to the new forum

Whilst we are moaning about the site, what about the spell check option? Despite my PC location being set to UK, the spell checker keeps trying to change an 'S' to a 'Z' in economise and similar words. Whilst this may be acceptable in business language, let's push back on the tide of Americanism of the English language.

By the way, I'm not moaning about the spelling/grammar of international members - just keep contributing you are doing a great job :thumb. I just think that the spell checker should be English English otherwise I start questioning my own spelling.

I'm always pushing the wrong buttons :talktothehand
So here's an opportunity to apologies to any one I may have done something like this to
Equally if I have recieved any negativity I wouldn't have known!!
True saying ..... "Ignorance is bliss"
I do enjoy a little bannter between members that come on here from time to time though :)

Sorry Granny Jen, one of your bad spellings was from me. Not your spelling that's at fault but scrolling on a small iPhone screen. Also managed to leave an "optimistic" on the beach/se debate. Luckily not on one of the more passionate comments!

Most of these ratings are probably accidental.

I like them!

I think it makes the forum a bit more fun and interactive, you can also see who has rated you so its not as if it is anonymous.

Just had a look at my "score" all likes and agrees. I never knew I was so popular:bananadance

Okay, replying to my own post now! Bit clearer on a PC in that you can hover over an icon and a pop up tells what the icon means. Most of my posts are made on the train to and from to work on an Android phone and I expect most errors are made using phones and tablets.
Opinion does not change - still dislike the 'dislike'.

I thought that one of my proof-readers had joined the forum :(

They love me, I'm like a job creation scheme to them.

Thanks, Martin. It would be great if we could lose the negative ones. Of course, they don't mean much in the scheme of things, but I think it spoils the atmosphere of the club, which otherwise seems supportive and friendly. Much better to encourage people to respond with their reasons or gripes about a post.

Yes, you can see who's been nasty to you, but I don't fancy direct mailing people to find out why. When I'm on the forum, I want it to be out about sharing the fun of having a Cali.

I'm just catching up on this thread now, and see that the thumb down symbol is gone!

I enjoy reading people's reactions to other people's posts - it makes the forum more interesting. A dislike was surely aimed at the comment, not the person writing it. It allowed us to give feedback without making "an analysis".

And it was never anonymous.

By the way, I have trouble with my 'signature'.

My Cali is no longer in the womb, it is born, but presently in Dublin port on a ship. I was lucky with gestation, it did not take 12 weeks from order to delivery, it took 10 weeks. I just can't change that 8/12 on the Avatar!

I deserve a dislike for that!
