Pop top latch issue

Hi there, I’m looking for some help with an issue I have closing my pop top on a t4 California. The only way I can close the latch properly is to slam the roof with a good deal of force starting from a height of about 50cm between the upper latch and the bottom part. I have seen videos of people closing their roof online and it seems to only need a good pull from the unlatched position which is much lower and looks a lot easier. Has anyone had similar experience with their pop top roof? I’m wondering if I need to buy new latches or if there might be other solutions I can try. As you can imagine the height I need to pull it from leads to the canvas blowing out and it takes all kinds of effort to close it at the moment. Any help would be gratefully received.
