Pop top mechanism corrosion

Today I washed the Cali and thoroughly and cleaned under the pop top, drains, gummi pledged all rubber seals etc. The metal mechanism spoilt the look due to oxidization/ some sort of corrosion. Anyway sanded down with wet and dry sand paper and now looks great. Siliconed sprayed all moving parts and now ready for our next adventure next weekend. I can’t wait. Photos are in no particular Oder but I’m sure you will know which is before and after

If you’ve sanded it down you’ll probably find it might come back even worse as you’re likely to have further removed any protective paint or coating. I’d suggest protecting the surface with something, even if it’s just wiping down with a rag with some ACF50

It was a very light sanding and could have possibly done with a scouring pad. I don’t think there a was any paint or protection on it at all. Just bare metal.

I think the metal parts are zinc plated. So as long as the zinc coating is undamaged.

I've never experienced the sort of corrosion that you have, but perhaps it's a good idea to apply a coat of wax polish to them from new.
