Putting bed extension shelf back!!

Has anyone modified the fixings so you can take in and out like the previous type. The inclining idea is a waste of time IMO, but to take it out to carry large things is a very big plus.
True. Great flexibility of function and a big plus, but only if it works. :D

Perhaps you’ve got a different bed extension to Pugmeister and me? This bed extension is designed to go in and out.

My video in post 19 shows the situation after I had spent 30 minutes getting it back in position. However, although both brackets appear to be fixed onto the lugs at either side of the van, I’m left with the board moving above the grey retaining clips visible on the surface. Is this normal? It doesn’t feel right. If not right. Does everyone think that I haven’t put the bed extension back correctly after all?

I’m really stuck!
I wish the board was :D

I’ve taken mine out and replaced it with a plywood box. Although I could get it in and out it bashed the sides of the wardrobe unit and I thought I would end up damaging something as I often need to remove it to carry things.

Good work, but I'm reluctant to do this to my brand new van.
Mines brand new, I did this in the first week we had it. I’ve unbolted the two fixings but otherwise the van is untouched. I could put it all back in less than an hour and that includes 45 minutes trying to remember where I put the fixings.

Did exactly the same this morning! Managed to get the unit back in with a couple of minor scrapes - not touching it again!

The old metal mesh on the SE was so much better :(
Does everyone’s board wobble about, even when fixed underneath correctly? i.e the grey retaining clips don’t actually retain?

I have a similar ‘wobble’ @acer.

I have had my shelf out a few times. It was quite a struggle to put get out and put back (on my own) even after watching California Chris’s helpful YouTube on this. I have now put some markers on the opposite joining parts so that I drop in and align the metal under carriage correctly before sliding the shelf and framework towards the back seat: to click it in.

I suspect the wobble was always there as I cannot see anything wrong with the frame alignment and fixings. It does not rattle when driving and with stuff on top of the shelf the wobble is of course curtailed.

But, if others with a 6.1 Ocean - who perhaps have never taken their shelf out - have an entirely wobble-free shelf with retaining clips that hold the shelf firmly in place I would be interested, as I have wondered why those two grey retaining clips seem to do nothing.

I took it out to access the rear battery on my T6.1. It's quite easy to dismount and mount. The trick is to have all fasteners lined up and then push it forward, while keeping the lever up. The front fastener will then get in place and the locker at the back can be engaged. Maybe the pictures makes it easier to understand. The last two pictures are from the right side. The challenge with the right is that the front fastener is covered, so it's not possible to visually see that the bracket is in position.

Resurrecting this thread because this new 6.1 owner also spent around 30 minutes and countless attempts to get this bed extension / multiflex thing back in position. I’ve read the tips above but I’m starting to think that there might be a problem. Is it just my van that has this ‘play’ in the mechanism?
Looks like the fastener on the right side came lose from the van.

I’ve bookmarked your post for when I next need to do this! Hopefully, not for some time to come!

Useful post @JMStockholm , thank you. Just to be clear, when you say “The trick is to have all fasteners lined up and then push it forward, while keeping the lever up” I agree from experience to the first bit about “then push forward”, but are you referring to keeping the two levers that hook over the rear studs pulled back (so effectively “up” or open) or which “lever up” do you mean, please?

The first time I removed the shelf on my own following California Chris’ video it went perfectly. But the next time it to many attempts, and I could work out what I had done wrong the second time.

Additionally, as per the end of my post #32 above, does you shelf stay firm within the grey clips either side at the back, or can you wobbl/’rattle it around?
