Hello - even though I have owned my Cali since September 2020 I have never ventured to remove the pre fitted Sparesafe. So - how do I do it? There seems to be various bits in a bag in the toolbox. Thanks.

There will be a 17 or a 19mm socket with three pins inside. This socket fits to the bolt inside the sparesafe.

Align the socket with the bolt inside the sparesafe and use teh appropriate socket (I think 19mm) to undo the bolt.

Let me know if you need any pics.

It is just a shroud for a security bolt.
Normally there is a cover for the bolt head that has to be removed, like a wheel bolt cover/cap and a security socket to fit in the wheel brace.

Thanks, yes a few pics might be useful.

Here we go.

The first one is the sparesafe bolt fixed to the spare wheel. I have removed the sparesafe as I am painting it currently (and before anyone asks - yes, bright red again).

If you look under the sparesafe, you will see this bolt.

and here it is with the 19mm socket that I use. You could also use a 19mm spanner if you have that to undo the bolt.

Ah ok - i was confused by the covering shroud cap. Presumably this is removed with the plastic attachment with the stem?

Ok thanks - will investigate tomorrow.
getting the cover/shroud cap off is difficult. I never fitted mine again as the prospect of lying on a wet muddy roadside repeating the process in an emergency didn't appeal.

Like you I chucked the supplied steel bolt head cover and use one of these which are a perfect 'squeeze in' fit to the cavity - easy to see and to remove. They also double as a cover for a vented or drilled water filler cap.

Anyway - I managed to get the cap off, with a bit of difficulty. I agree it’s a poor design however I pushed it back on after greasing it well with Vaseline.
Vaseline to the rescue yet again!
