I have just left Kwikfit as I had a tyre burst when I hit the kerb this morning, when they replaced the tyre they found a hairline crack on one of the wheels and advised I look for a rimming expert. Does anyone know when I can get these rimmed or am I best getting a new wheel?

What alloys have you got? I personally would look for a replacement wheel if I had one with a crack in it.
Don't think I know any rimming experts

If it was me Eileen I would not think of a repair. When it comes to wheels and tyres I adopt the mantra of "if in doubt, throw it out".

Shouldn´t this thread be in the Light Hearted Chit Chat.

Out on interest we’re they able to show you the fracture? If not maybe ask a second reputable tyre place to confirm.

If they confirm then as others have said it may not be worth the risk and a new allow is the way to go.

I would get someone else to assess the wheel. If a crack is present then replace it ASAP or put the spare on. Don’t risk it.

Sorry can't advise on this direct...but have you tried googling for it. :) **

Even worse, Google images! I never even knew this activity took place, guess I am behind the times.

I hope everyone realises this thread will now be picked by Google Search bots, and will be listed accordingly depending on the search terms used.
Might be a good idea to amend the title.:shocked

Time for a new Adult section in the forum!

Oh... What a shame the title has been changed. It's completely removed the tongue in cheek of this thread. :Grin

This thread … :Grin :headbang

Wheel replaced in Dublin at at cost of 580 euro, it also turns out the Kwik fit staff were having a joke at my expense, I have since Googled rimming so now realise why some found this funny
580 € ????? for a wheel. It sounds like the lads in Dublin were
having a bigger joke.
What did you get exactly ?

Standard affair for OEM wheels unfortunately.
O/P is lucky. I had a crack a couple of months ago and can’t get a replacement wheel as Volkswagen have discontinued that style of wheel.

I have had it repaired. The crack was very minor.
Alloy repairs are becoming more common now. Take it to a wheel specialist who will guarantee the repair.
I was told alloys are fine to repair, however they should have no more than 3 repairs per wheel. After 3 they are scrap.

Talk to BMW drivers, BM alloys are prone to cracking.

Picked up mine after repair yesterday (bi-colour Cascavel) which got badly scratched after a blowout. Beware getting them done by mobile repairers. Might be all right for some defects but not the same job. They needed mine for a couple of days as they completely spray it, then a very fine diamond cut, sealed and baked. Perfect job.

In order to give me matching tread on the rears new one was put on the rear replacing the steel spare, one on spare which was New was taken off the steel and put on the other rear alloy with that one going on the steel. Had my copper ease handy which they applied to all four wheels, a quick spray of the spare with ACF -50 ( This was recommended on here and fitter was well impressed as he uses the stuff) and then the customary fight to get it back under the Cali.

44 on the front and 43 on the rear, reset tyre monitor and sorted.

NB: Good to see they used a torque wrench properly set to tighten the wheels.

Hey Mike

How much did the work cost...?
Diamond cut repairs aren’t cheap. Just had a quote to the ones on my Porsche. Nearly fell off my chair when he told me the price.

Yep not cheap and I considered a replacement. £125

Pleased I had it done or would have been a constant reminder.

That’s sounds pretty good.
I was quoted £250 per wheel.
Hence my shock...
