My rears swapped at 73,000 k + pads ,some scouring on inner face . My decision to change. Front changed at 91,000 due to some circular ridging and worn pads.

Use it or lose it.

Zimmermann's are also very good and don't corrode

Now on my third set at the rear at 72k. Swapped the fronts out at 53k for Brembos and they still look as new

@WG do you have the big brake front disc option?

Wondering if this is a side effect of the 340mm front stopping power over the standard 308

Yes. I believe they were standard on my 4Motion.

Hmmmm .... not sure why I go through rears. Van is used at least once or twice week and longer journeys.

Is there not some hydraulic balancing valve/system between front and rear?
There is on the T4. Maybe the ABS system does that on later vehicles.

Just paid £265 for fronts and £327 for rears at an independent VW specialist, so £592 in total. Genuine VW parts and same warranty. At 65K miles this is the third set on the rears an second set on front. So getting between 20k to 30k miles per set. The discs seem to wear at the same rate as the pads, which amazes me.

Thats not a bad price. Brembo from Eurocar parts came to £110 for the discs and £44 for the pads. Then about £20 for the stretch bolts from VW (which they had in stock...phew)..... would have been cheaper if I ordered them from Autodoc but alas a last minute thing

Discs normally good for 80/120K miles, Pads 30/70K Miles; Depending on driving style.

Your discs should be lasting far longer, unless you are braking on worn pads which will score the disc...but you would hear a grinding noise of this was the case.

Recently had new rear discs and pads at 47,000 miles. £400 at South Hereford VW Van centre.

Pads on mine half worn...

Had a Landrover D2 that did discs and pads (all round) after 2yrs / 24k miles. Replaced them for genuine parts and still okay at 67k miles when I sold it.

@pjm-84 I had my rear discs and pads changed roughly 9000 miles ago for genuine VW and they are now starting to score on the inside. Like you the majority of my mileage has been mostly on motorways/peage. Planning to change to ATE when the pads are worn.
